Ratalaika's in my good books for their Gley Lancer & Gynoug ports. I'm a physical guy, but Slap Fight MD is going for an average of $520 CAD as I type this, so a digital port is welcome in this case. I hope they do something with the sound in Grind Stormer though. I sold my copy because the screechy audio was just unbearable.

Ratalaika? They should first release what they announced before making any more announcements

Definitely picking them up.

I wonder if Slap Fight MD will have the Space Invader edited out like the recent version on the Mega Drive Mini?

Yeah has to be the MD versions as surely the arcade ones are on the Toaplan Arcade Garage queue (at an unspecified point).

I recall seeing the Tengen Sega Genesis port of Grind Stormer brand new for $19.99 usd at my local Kay-B-Toys back in 1994. Bought it and still have it in my gaming stash alrighty. The hidden "Easter Egg" of unlocking "Free Play" is to simply press the Reset button 100 times -- works like a charm indeed.

The original Toaplan produced V-V jamma pcb easily sells for $900 usd and up nowadays. Am not sure how much the USA revision jamma pcb of Grind Stormer fetches on the secondary arcade pcb collector's market nowadays.

Reminder that they're the people behind Inin's Irem Collection.

They also did Gleylancer, so have a track record with MD titles.

So it will cost as much as Gleylander/Gynoug?
Ah, not bad. It seems they only know how to port MD, because the Shockman trilogy (PCE) is full of bugs, for example on the right side of the screen there is the "loop" of the left side...

Ah of course it'll be the MegaDrive versions. Makes sense.

Hopefully that doesn't mean the MD ports won't be excluded from the eventual ShotTriggers port of the arcade versions, when/if that ever happens. I really like both of them.

Important reminder: Slap Fight MD is the best STG on the Mega Drive, the best shooting game on a console from that generation, one of the top 5 best STGs ever made, one of the best games ever made, and possibly the single greatest arcade -> home conversion in history. It also has a cool instruction manual and box art.

Interesting that this would get a stand-alone release, considering that when M2 ports these games to console, the original console versions will likely be DLC for the digital version, or on the Switch game card, if not also the PS4 disc. Still, it's good to have options, and both of these releases are good enough to warrant picking it up regardless, especially because of the finnicky nature of the Tengen cart hardware. They're apparently prone to failure. I'm not sure how well the Japanese release fares in comparison, but better to have these preserved either way.

Same. Slap Fight MD is easily Top 10 on MD, but I often feel the story of its home conversion is perhaps more interesting than the actual game.
Formerly known as 8 1/2. I return on my second credit!

I wanted to see what they were working on, so I tried them both.
Strangely, I suck at Gradius, but here a little less, and yet they have a similar power up system.
I tried Grind Stormer first. It's blinding, magnificently blinding, bright colors, and the water effect in the first stage is unique, I've never seen it drawn like that.
I usually use fast ships, the fastest is always the one I'll choose in 80% of cases, out of habit....but in Grind Stormer...oh my god, for the first time as soon as I saw a Speed-Down I took it! I've never slowed down in a SHMUPS before
Then I tried Slap Fight. I'm loving Slap Fight, even if it slaps you like the title says. I love the power-ups it has, being able to even change the size (Wings) of the ship, very different weapons between them... I don't know, it's really taking me.
Thank goodness they will receive a porting, better the rewind rather than the save state... I find it faster.
