RANDOMAX (Astro Port, PC/Steam) - out now

Post by FunktionJCB »

The Steam page for RANDOMAX, Astro Port's new game, is now up on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3096420/RANDOMAX/

The title is described as a "rogue-lite vertical scrolling Shmup".

Here's a few clips of the game in action:

The Astro Port shmups never did much for me, but this looked damn good to me until I saw rogue-lite. Can't say I am a fan of that mechanic in shmups.

Edit: I guess I should've caught on with "Random" in the name.

Pretty sure I own all of the Astro Port titles. They are usually fun little popcorn games to pass the time. This one will be enjoyable as well I'm sure.

It's definitely weird, but after playing the demo, I'm leaning towards "it's gonna be sick".

The game is out now on Steam, and it has an affordable price tag (even more so if you already own the other Astro Port titles, with two bundles providing an additional discount):

The Steam port of Randomax is a 411.16mb d/l and runs just fine on a Steam Deck setup without the need for a Proton loader necessary. There was an update with a 183mb d/l applied to Randomax -- I'm not sure what was updated though. Randomax is priced at an introductory offer of $8.49 usd for a limited time as it's usual default MSRP is $9.99 usd. The end-stage boss characters are quite "easy on the eyes" with their ample assets and hourglass figurine shapes -- seems like an anime OVA of Randomax would be cool to watch just for the witty banter between the three main characters and the end-stage bosses. Developer Astro Port has truly delieved another awesome doujin stg title worthy of your hard-earned money & time.

How's the difficulty?

The demo on maximum diff was oddly super easy..

I selected "Normal" difficulty setting and proceeded with my first foray into trying out the full-version of Randomax -- got to the beginning of Stage 3 and died there on my last life. I was given the opportunity to continue with 3 credits left and cancelled it leaving it as a "One Credit-No Continue" affair.

You do have the ability to save your last current play-through of Randomax as a replay if so desired to be viewed at your leisure (which is a most welcome perk/option as it is).

Oh, Astro Port are one of my favourite devs.
Their games have a very distinctive handwriting. I collect all their little enjoyable nuggets.
Pricing is always fair.
Graphics are great and in a recognizable own style.
Gameplay is easy but always fun.
What’s not to like with those super cool games?
In fact for me they capture the very essence of shmupping. Fast, immediate maximum fun without pretending to reinvent the wheel.

Today was the first day I've been able to sit down and actually play the full game. I'm finding I actually really like it the more I play it. More than I was expecting to.

Yeah it was. It picks up pretty quickly after stage 2, which is where the demo ended iirc. Ultra gets pretty tough, and there's an unlockable difficulty above that you get by completing Ultra. There's also a "Custom" mode that you can make pretty silly.
