I'd rather continue using the 360 controller...

I would like to do leverless with WASD, though the only ones I have found are shitty Vewlix layout, so I'd have to go custom to get a good layout like Astro City (the best one).

Not to be confused with UPL Ninja Kid or NES Ninja Kid (which are two different games lol). Them darn kids and their ninja tendencies are hard to keep track of.

P1 and P2 have the exact same layout.

Also, WASD what?!

1P and 2P are different. Here is 1P

here is 2P

I don't like the angle on 2P side. It feels weird and uncomfortable.

And yes, WASD is far superior to any d-pad or arcade lever, unless you want to do like 360 motions. It could be argued that leverless is better than WASD and is the single best/most optimal input method for 2D games, but that's not an argument that I'm going to make, especially as I have never used a leverless.

I have a Net City and New Net City and I don't think they angled the stick orientation on 2P's side.... was this only an Astro City thing? Weird.

Controllers with good d pads for the Xbox 360 do seem to be uncommon indeed. Even when the console was current gen.
Missed this post. For xbox 360 specifically, I use a fightpad from madcatz that has wrestlers on it. I don't like wrestling, but the pad was cheap and easy to purchase years ago. I don't play 2d games and fighters that often on xbox 360, but it has been a good little saturn clone pad for when I do need it.

The pad looks like this except with Hogans on it:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/166780681474?e ... BMspWLoKRk

It works pretty well for Tekken. Trying to EWGF on xbox 360 pad is torture and this makes it better. I'm pretty sure the wrestler skin was some kind of promotional thing with a crappy xbox 360 game releasing around that time. Weird that I can't seem to find another one though. :)

I have one of those fightpads, and they are surprisingly accurate compared to how loose and imprecise the d-pad actually feels.
I've never liked circle shaped d-pads though - cross shape is always an advantage to me. I want to be able to feel which direction I'm pushing, not just make an estimate :P

WASD on an actual keyboard is crap if you're not using the surrounding keys too, because it's annoying to 4-finger without brushing other keys. WAXD is a bit better.
The real directional master race is numpad + arrow keys for pseudo-leverless with 8 cardinals and 4 diagonals. (Why yes, this is the configuration I'm currently using, how could you tell?)

I agree! I was too lazy to name it and I don't own one unfortunately, but I have used this one at a friend's and it is definitely good, there is nothing I could complain about. I should still get one of those as well.

Another super sad thing is this. I only bought this about a year ago because after so many years with this hobby and after buying so many different controllers, arcade sticks, adapters, cables, converters, and all kinds of shit, I still didn't have a good all round controller for the 360. So I bought this fucking thing from Japan, found it on a website I had never seen before as it rarely shows up:

Image

Image

Not the best d pad in the world, kind of like the one on the Hori joy cons for the Switch handheld mode, but good enough and a million times better than the default Microsoft one.
So all good in theory, if the controller worked the way it should, but it doesn't! It has ghost inputs!
It is easy to prove. For instance, if you just go to the cover flow of your games and don't touch the controller, nothing should happen, right? You wish. Sooner or later you will get a random "left" input. The game that was highlighted before is not highlighted anymore. It's just a matter of time until you are all the way back to the left. I'm not sure but I think I've also witnessed it doing vertical inputs.

This is just the worst part of this hobby to me. How they make everything so hard for us. I guess it's all good as long as you play your Fifa, GTA, and COD, but as soon as you ask for a good d pad these days, you are already facing an extremely frustrating challenge.

Yes, I bought one of those Hori EX2 Turbo controllers brand new from Fry's Electronics Super Store. Hori did sell 'em in the USA when the 360 console was still alive 'n' ticking -- what caught my eye about that particular Hori 360 d-pad was, it's highly touted auto-fire capabilities with 3 different autofire speeds to choose from. Apparently Hori sold the EX2 Turbo controller in other colors besides black, mine's blue.

Use a leverless for all 2D games that are not twin stick. Up-Down specials, double-direction specials are especially easy and useful in beat em ups. 360 motions in fighting games can actually be easier I find, as you can time the final up button press with the punch (or whatever) that bit better.

Have you ever noticed those random directional inputs? Or is it just mine?

There is also the predecessor of the controller shown above, the Hori EX Turbo:

And there is also the Hori Gem Pad EX:

I might try these if I ever see a good deal.

For now, I decided to get the Mad Catz Street Fighter IV FightPad (Sagat)! I checked Ebay after Sima Tuna had mentioned the controller and usually I see all those cheeky sellers asking for a three digit price (condition: new/never opened) but today I saw a good deal and went for it:

I just hope it's not faulty and that it will last forever.

There's a version of the Hori Fighting Commander that works with both the Xbox 360 and Xbox 1. It uses the same dpad as the Switch and PS4 version of the controller and I like it quite a bit.

I have a cheap hori controller for my switch that's complete garbage. Nobody should ever buy them. They break down regularly and the dpads are complete ass with constant false diagonals. Stick drift too.

^This is the horipad that you SHOULD NOT BUY. DO NOT FALL FOR THE CHEAP PRICE. It is shit!

I have a Split Pad Pro for my switch and it's good. It costs 2+ times as much, so it should be.

Yeah I wish I had this one. But it's already like three digits used. Probably four digits new lol.

I mainly use this one for the Switch: "8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth & 2.4g Controller with Charging Dock for Switch and Windows - White"

D pad and buttons are good enough for me. Plus it has good sticks and it's a good all round controller.

Hori Fighting Commander Xbox360
I have one of these, used it to 1cc Akai Katana. I mentioned this in the 1cc thread years ago, but I had to take it apart and clean it with a q-tip and alcohol because the plastic on the d-pad would flake after continual use and clog up the sensors. It may be why false diagonals start happening.

Anyway, arthritis in my fingers caused me to migrate to a joystick, so the Hori currently sits unused.

Also, I'm so glad that Hamster's Arcade Archives are a thing.

Wow, I have that Xbox pad and did not know it's now worth that much. I should probably think about selling it, it's in excellent condition and hasn't even been used in a couple years (don't think I've used anything other than an arcade stick on my 360 for years).

This has been a trend for me recently, realizing that old peripherals I have around are now worth a lot. Also have a couple Xbox Rock Band guitars that I have recently become aware are now worth $$$$ due to Fortnight. And found an official Nintendo DS XL/LL charging cradle that seems to now go for over $100, that I can no longer even use (don't have an original DS XL model any more, and it doesn't fit the DSi LL or 3DS XL that I do own).

Yeah ): I just checked again and the cheapest one I could find at first glance is $79.99.

I just made this thread to continue any discussion that's not related to ACA, instead of always using this or the M2 Toaplan thread :D

(I know I do this most every week) Aesthetically, this is doing a lot for me.
The photorealistic backgrounds, the see-what-sticks clip-art mentality of the borders, not to mention the characters themselves.
But Teki-Paki has ruined my brain and I'm likely to pass on the basis that it won't be as good as Teki-Paki.
