The thread for small discussions and everything else

Post by Arino »

If any topic comes up that is not related to the respective thread, we can use this thread instead of always using the ACA or the M2 Toaplan thread

My Reddit posts mostly get deleted because of some kind of rule I didn't know about. And my score is below zero

This shit is surreal. :o Having seized the coveted #1 SPOT, I have set off a cross-forum investigations with my daft meme of a hillbilly pedo from To Catch A Predator. (he is bald and fat, resembling famous George Constanza) A Reddit mod (the shame Image) has PMd me to determine if I am the TRVE+HONEST creator, or a - may Allah forgive me for saying this - CONTENT THIEF!

This fuck is lucky I never leak private correspondence. I would use his overly generous profile to locate his workplace, then use this cringeful message to

1) putting him ina the CAMEL CLUTCH Image
2) BREAKA his BACK Image
3) FUCKING HIM IN HIS ASS Image (making him humble)

edit: Who am I kidding, his boss is probably a weird fuck too. If he exists. >_> But Christ Jesus. I knew Discord was full of differently abled individuals, but I can deal with them. Actually I find them kinda cute. This is some kinda fucked up cargo cult, except instead of poor black guys looking out for guns and food it's a bunch of neckbreads rubbing their choads @ numbers. Image Wait a sec...

I applaud Kachou for making this thread, though.
My heart breaks a little each time the M2 thread gets a bump and the only news is that there's no new news.

BIL was treated unfairly. On the internet. Regarding something unimportant that doesn't affect his life at all. Therefore, we are now doing our best to provide moral support.

Thanks for explanation.

I must acknowledge I do not understand half+ of the usual BIL's fashion posts here, but guess he is definitely to be considered as a cornerstone of this forum.
So I'll participate in giving mental support by ... telling a bad joke ? This one's for you BIL :

- Why would BIF rather play video games ?
- Because he does not give a LUCK about anything else.

Used to live close to a factory that had piles of token size slugs lying about. Had to bend some of the edges, but they worked otherwise. The arcade fella went berzerk. Started running up on everyone and inspecting our coinage. Naturally, the kid that got fingered put on a tough front, but he burst into tears and spilled everything when he got caught. Say you don't need to buy some real tokens and mix them in? You're wrong, boyo.

Thread of DANGEROUS GAME

Post by Lander »

Delectable, like the spidey meme if it were a work the whole time 8)

My brother-in-law used to rip off german vending machines with english pennies when he was working over there during the 90s - turns out they were just right shape and size to pass muster as deutschmark, before technology caught up and put paid to the petty snack fraud.

What is the name of the "belly band" that trade workers and generic old dudes wear in manga/anime (and, I guess, in Japan)? Zenigatta of Lupin III fame wears one when he's off service, and of course the Hammerin' Harry protagonist also wears one.
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

Sarashi. You see it also in delinquent manga/tv/movies/games, presumably because delinquents were imitating the older Yakuza who wore them. It seems to be a visual shorthand for japanese tough guy of a certain era.

Zomg thankyou !!1!!! ;______;

I struggled to find any info because I kept asking the wrong question to the interwebs, I guess. Yes, I am old enough to have read/seen tons of manga/anime in which the sarashi is a key icon of working class heroes of some sort. Hammerin' Harry's story is "honest working class hero craftsman vs. evil corporation", in fact. Harry and more in general old guys in anime seem to wear haramaki or 'belly warmer', which is the most jiji/ossan piece of clothing ever

...ah, jeeze. I wish Ruroni Nobuhiro hadn't nonced himself. Although I suppose I read his entire manga BITD without paying a single yen, so perhaps it takes a thief to bash a nonce? Whee, rationalisation! Image Dude drew some damn good shonen, needs to keep his dirty paws off the shojo. Image

Also good for shrugging off a bike wreck when you need to show the wet-behind-the-ears youngins what for

For a long time I assumed it was indicative of battle damage, rather than a preventative measure - means to keep slugging in spite of close-call disembowelment. Perhaps the not knowing is part of the HARDMANN mystique!

The rope sweatband is a stone-cold working classic as well, always enjoyed the sheer practicality of it.

It's amazing how good ideas get buried and tossed aside. I decided to break out my MiSTer again.

I've been hearing a lot about the new I/O board. I almost brought one.

But... I stumbled onto PWM.

Pulse width modulation (PWM) looks awfully good on my MiSTer 18-bit standard analog board. The results are indistinguishable to my eye on a CRT. Doesn't work with the analog scaler, but the results with native output are faithful. It's curious how little attention PWM has gotten. The new 24 bit board has become a luxury purchase for my use case. I don't need the MiSTer analog scan doubler.

A bit puzzling that the PSX core only has 26 downloads. Saturn and N64 are already available. It's rolled into the normal Groovy_Mister core. Easy to install. Just drop the cores on your MiSTer sd card.
https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=7565

Anyhow, if you have one of the original I/O cards, it's a great download and a clever software workaround to get better color. It's a viable alternative for people that don't want to buy a new board, fork over cash for shipping and VAT, open the case, and mess about with an upgrade.

Comparison shots in the linked thread confirm what I see.

------

In other news, Groovy_MiSTer has sound and input support now. If you have a Realtec chip on your networking card and support for large tranfer buffers, it's worth checking out as well. It takes a little configuration, but you can have it up and running in one evening. No more ancient PCs and old Radeon graphics cards. Thank goodness.
