Wow, what a sad story. Really sucks. I was checking the news at least every few days.

What a blow, the site was a true titan of the internet.

The (in?)famous Ghideon Zhi offers his "side" of the story

God I feel like a LOT of sites from the old days have these kind of issues of crotchety old guard not wanting any kind of good updating.

This is an incredible loss. Too bad it's good things like romhacking.net that go away instead of evil shit like Google, but that's how it is.

Very sad, it was an incredibly useful public resource for translations in particular of games, having them all available on one site was super convenient. Shame the owner wasn't able to come to some kind of agreement to hand the site over to another owner...?

This isn't exactly on topic but, in theme with gaming shut downs, Game Informer has sunset it's 33 year run. This one's more expected. Most people get their gaming media digitally now, for better and worse.
But there's a lot of this happening lately it feels like, between companies being closed and sites closing up shop. Like Bungie just cut 220 jobs hot off the heels of all the MicroSoft closures and layoffs.

It’s worth reading the whole thing. Says they tried and it got really bad, to the point people were threatening his family members. I didn’t expect it to go there.

Neither did I, and I have a feeling it didn't based on the response of Ghideon Zhi. Maybe NightCrawler is really out of touch with communication online and misunderstood communication on discord messages.

You know some stuff just shuts down because it really is just a change of times leaving old things behind. But the more that comes out about this story, the more it's clear this shut down didn't need to happen. What a disaster.

It has always been an excellent resource and a useful collection to many of us.

The guides and tutorials pretty much amassed many of the essential documents in one place, and introduced many to how patching was done.

A shame but let's hope that someone decides to pick up where it left off.

Those bitches that hassled the guy who ran the site for years and tried to swindle him can fuck off.

Yeah, I loved that site. Best place for hacks, hands down.
Big loss for retro gamers.
