French Shmup Documentary

Post by zjd »

Hope this hasn't been posted already but I was checking out the forums over at super-play.co.uk and found that someone translated this French STG documentary. Here is the translation page w/ a link to the video:

http://www.shmup.canalblog.com/

Enjoy!

Too bad that SWY is on the screen for not more than 7 seconds. Btw, once again thanks to krgfn for the translation ;)

This documentary is awesome. Great interviews with Cave and G.rev, and we get to see SWY in action. What could be better than that? Too bad they didn't show WIZ though.

The documentary won't start! It's not available anymore? Someone cares to upload it on a... er, "backup source"?
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

yes the server has problems, I am the one who translated the video, and there should be subtitles tomorrow, but I can't do that so someone else is doing it.

The Cave office looked like a giant detective office set in the future :o Very very cool considering you don`t see this every day.

The G.rev office looks like a janitor's closet at the end of the floor of an apartment building. :(

Notize the guy who puts ketsui into the cab, ( bevore SWY is playing ) - it was wrapped in pvc. I never saw this bevore. I thought the pcb is warming up after a while.

The woman who plays mushihime sama ultramode in the cave departement. - wired.:)

That's not a woman playing Ultra mode, it's a guy with long hair.

Great documentary. It's good to see TV researchers actually doing their work for a change; that was a well put together piece.

That`s what I thought too but again I didn`t want to upset anyone... on the other hand, G.Rev looked a bit more underground-ish, like a small record label, whereas Cave looked like a king-size super comglomerate.

The documentation mentions that Cave even makes jewelery...excuse my frankness, but WHAT THE? King-size rims to put on your machine? Pimp Up My Cab?

Alex Pilot, the guy who did this documentary, has also produced a few other ones about fighting games, rhythm games...

I would think that G. Rev could be reasonably classified as "indie" developers in that their target platform (Naomi) is now very (extremely!) cheap to develop to by modern console standards... allowing them to pick and choose what they want to do and (I believe) self-fund. And I'm glad this is the case :) since we get some great games.

Of course, Senko no Ronde may be an exception for XBox360...
