Guwange is a really cool shmup. Imagine a shmup but walking along the ground and subject to the terrain just like if you were playing Ikari Warriors or Guevara.

Guwange is one of my favorites for its crazy traditional shinto atmosphere.

That sounds pretty interesting. Bullet hell is not something that I typically enjoy much at all and as such I generally avoid it, but most (all?) of the walking STGs that I have played are either really good or extremely good, so I'll have to check it out for sure.

Steven wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 3:12 am Guwange is actually not going away since you can get it on newer Xboxes, and I think it's the only CAVE game that is like this, but I'm not planning on getting a newer Xbox, so this is my last chance.
While you're all set, I think that it's potentially of use to others to clarify that this isn't your last chance even if you never own a newer Xbox console.

Thanks to the browser storefront and being backwards compatible, instead of buying that game at this link (which is the Xbox 360 storefront page)...

https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Prod ... 0258410a78

You instead can just buy it from the Xbox One/Series storefront...

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/ ... 488TNPSQ0F

Microsoft's closure FAQ when they announced the end of being able to purchase content off the Xbox 360 storefront, confirmed that backwards compatible purchases made from the newer storefront after July 28th will continue to be added to our Xbox 360 download history. So all you had to do is buy it from your favorite browser after this Sunday and you'd of still been all set.
Oh good, then there isn't much of a rush in my case, just DLC that is going away.

For the Otomedius Excellent DLC, yeah, depends if you want to get them or not. Myself, I have all of them that you listed except the BGM packs. Those are completely optional, however, its just basically another selection to press the A button again before starting the game.

For Space Invaders Extreme, I did look into this, and yeah, the Steam version is single player only, no co-op or online multiplayer (for up to 2-4 players) in that version. Yet the X360 version does have it. There's also a DLC expansion pack which includes both the original and part II (though it doesn't give much context if its just levels inspired by them or they're outright full games inside S.I. Extreme.)
So what do you think about the Otomedius DLC? I feel like the costumes probably aren't worth the asking price, I'd imagine they don't change the characters enough to have much of an impact. The characters may be unique enough to try?
Are the stages just separated into their own menu where you just play them individually? That doesn't sound all that satisfying unless they're super long.

Think I will grab Space Invaders Extreme, not sure on the DLC but it does seem like the 360 version is unique for it.
As for Raystorm HD, I would doubt that the XBLA version would be a unique port which includes its own features outside of later collections that includes its own stuff. I've only tried the demo for this version, and that's all I can remember from.

Either way, only just this weekend to go until the X360 store closes.
I know very little about that one, more a heads-up in case someone more knowledgeable has something to say about it. If the 16:9 presentation is unique for the 360 version, I wouldn't say it looks all that great anyways.

While we're doing last-minute checks, is any of the DLC for Senko no Ronde Rev. X or Duo particularly meaningful? I can see some story content ("Vol. 2" of something) for Duo but unless it adds stages or characters I doubt I'd be arsed. Thanks!

Edit: also, any idea why Eschatos would give me the "80150017" error when other games are allowing me to buy them without issue, using the same Japanese console, account and points?

Is there any reason I should get Caladrius & Rez HD on the 360 if I have / could get them on PS3, PS4 or Switch?

No reason for Caladrius. The blaze version on switch is great, and I assume it's the same on ps4 except with slightly less lag. You don't want vanilla Caladrius at all imo: blaze is much better.

No, you totally want Rez Infinite on PS4 with Area X.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I also just remembered I actually still have a sealed copy of Otomedius Excellence but could never play due to my PAL 360. Also learnt about the ability to change store regions on a 360 like 5 min ago. Honestly, too much hassle and not enough time to get the DLC and not like I could play the game anyways.

Nothing unusual about that. Few if any people have been able to use their credit card linked to their account to buy content off the Xbox 360 store in recent years.

The solution is easy. Buy a gift card and add it to your account from a PC or modern Xbox (gift card redemption also doesn't work from the 360 itself). Then use the account balance to buy your content from the Xbox 360 itself.

Since you only own a 360, here's the link where you'd do it. Log into your account and just redeem your code here. https://redeem.microsoft.com/

I was surprised to just see that it was the arcade classic and the color follow-up when I bought it recently. Well worth $3 for me, but I was expecting something that added bonus levels to the main game.

Will try directly from Microsoft. This is stupid.

And of course Microsoft doesn't accept my card either. Finally, I found that Paypal works. What a non-functional piece of shit Microsoft's system is.

Looking up the Otomedius DLC it's really dumb that they're just one-off completely separate stages, and they don't look all that interesting either. Think I will pass on those.

Did go ahead and nab Space Invaders Extreme and its DLC as my final purchase.

For me in the US, card worked fine when purchasing on a computer from marketplace.xbox.com pages. Card would not work on console, neither does gift card entry, that also has to be online. Funny enough if you use a gift card then web purchases from marketplace.xbox.com will NOT use your store balance, but will charge your card instead, you have to switch back to console for that.

I have definitely gotten Japanese gift cards recently from the typical key reselling sites (eneba has worked every time for me).

Hmm, not sure what you bought. Space Invaders Extreme is like the Pac-Man Championship Edition of Space Invaders, techno beats, neon visuals, and heavily remixed gameplay. Unfortunately the 360 version is not on sale though, believe it's $9.99

EDIT: OH you mean the DLC! Thanks, that saves me $3, I almost grabbed it just now since I'm not sure what time tomorrow things get shut off.

It sounded like you were talking about the DLC pack for Space Invaders Extreme when you said that you think that you'll grab Space Invaders Extreme but weren't sure about the DLC for it. The DLC literally is the classic Space Invaders arcade game and Space Invaders Part II.

Okay, so I bought Guwange on the online store using my web browser, but I can't download it on 360 because I haven't bought it. What the fuck. Did I buy it for Xbox one and not 360? This is ridiculous.

I did manage to get Black Label, fortunately.

Okay, good, Guwange fixed itself somehow. I hate this process. I have never bought anything on Xbox digitally before. Was it always this horrible?

It shouldn't matter which store you bought it at.

While I occasionally hear of issues where a backwards compatible game purchased from the 360 doesn't show up as owned on the XB1/Series (or vice versa), it's not supposed to matter. The purchase is supposed to be reflected across all three currently supported Xbox generations when a backwards compatible 360 title is bought on any of the three platforms or from the web storefront.

For instance when the last round of backwards compatible updates was issued, a lot of people had problem games. For me, Time Pilot and Scramble didn't show as owned on my XB1 despite being two of my earliest 360 purchases. Took a year for MS to reconcile the XB1/Series and 360 storefront data for Scramble to finally show as owned on my XB1 (I already had rebought Time Pilot to get it on my XB1, figuring it would never be rectified).

Did you check your download history on your 360? While it should show up as owned on the Xbox 360 store page for the game, there's still hope if you haven't actually checked your 360's download history yet for the game. If it's not there, I'm afraid that you're up a creek without a paddle. It may eventually show up correctly like Scramble did for me, but then again it may not. :(

All I can say is that it's not supposed to work like that, but they obviously don't care for the 360 end of things like they should, so errors like this happen as a result (as seen for instance by multiple games on sale that weren't even purchaseable in these recent sales).

That sucks, I mean these are definitely 3rd party sites and probably from shady sources, it was just the only option I could find at the time. Depending on who you bought from you should have some sort of purchase protection for it? Unless they shadily charge more for that.

I'm trying to check the vendor names I bought from previously but can't get into my account currently while I wait on an email. Might be too late anyways.

EDIT: G2A is where I did my first purchases, but they look completely wiped now. Made one other yen gift card purchase from "Ultimate Choice" on eneba who looks to have a 2000 yen card for US $22.82, which is a terrible exchange rate but today's literally the last day so not unexpected if you waited this long.

Yesterday I bought a Japanese Xbox points card from Nin-Nin-Game and they said they'll deliver the code in "48 hours" but I doubt it's coming at all. $77 I'm never seeing again!

I did buy from them before and they were great. Back in 2018 they were the only place I could get 3 months of Xbox Live Gold on my JP account so I could unlock stuff in Tetris Grand Master Ace. Of course I paid with PayPal back then, and that's not an option with them anymore...

Oh, there are definitely a few other bits, including this part 2, which is apparently a G.S.O. story chapter, but I've never seen anyone talk about it. Ah well! Getting Japanese gift cards at this late stage has been a nightmare (SEAGM sold me one that was actually out of stock, and MTC Game wanted all sorts of ID these sites don't usually ask for - I got out fast), so I might just accept the fact that I don't need any of this stuff anyway.

(It's a shame, because even when I had an RGH a lot of the DLC was nigh impossible to set up correctly. I never got anywhere with Otomedius.)

Looking at reddit posts and stuff for Otomedius RGH DLC, it seems like it may be outright unarchived, people were pointing out that most posts just had the library DLC that lets you play with people who actually own the DLC, but doesn't give you direct access.

From what I understand, we can still buy games, just not directly on the Xbox 360. I bought Beautiful Katamari from the Xbox page today and while the page doesn't list Xbox 360 under "Playable On," the game still appeared at the top of my download list on my Xbox 360 console. The DLC is available there too!

We just need a reliable place for Japanese points cards now. But if Amazon Japan didn't work for Steven then I'm out of ideas...

While that's true and all, that you can no longer buy games and DLC outright from the X360 store (both on console and on the web), it was already established that the X360 games/DLC that are backwards compatible can be still bought from the Xbox web store and on the X1/Series consoles and can still be downloaded on X360 from the download history.

For the record updates and patches are still available even though DLC purchases may not be available. I picked up a physical copy of the excellent arcade racer Blur for the 360 last week (21st Aug) and it installed an update. The leaderboard is still functioning too . So it's likely this will apply for any shmups already purchased.

Yeah, I can confirm this. I grabbed a physical copy of MX vs ATV Untamed and it prompted me for an update, which it installed. It did the same when I reinstalled Saints Row 2 about a week or so ago.

Damn shame the shop itself (even BC titles) is inaccessible on xbox 360 now. I guess I could buy games on pc through the xbox store and then download via purchase history on xbox 360, but ehhhh.
