Still waiting on my SCART connectors to get here so I can't share pictures yet, but I played a couple minutes of R-Type III to test it when I picked it up and nearly shed a tear. It makes everything look like a magazine shot from 1993. If you have someone in your area who does G1 mods, take advantage.
Cool. I have a Sony KV-20S41 which is basically the stereo version of your set, but with a white cabinet instead of the usual black. I've modified it to include additional inputs (S-Video, Component YPbPr, and RGB - pretty much every analog input method available), a CXD2073S comb filter chip (copied from the KV-20V80 schematic), and a negative G1 voltage (since the image looked a little soft depending on the contrast prior to doing that mod). When I did the negative G1 mod to it, I didn't have to adjust the screen control on the flyback whereas my KV-20EXR20 required having the screen potentiometer adjusted nearly all the way up when I did that mod to it.

Although it can be challenging at times, modding CRTs is definitely worth it for getting the most out of them.

Always nice to see R4!
But Bucky O'Hare immediately jumped out at me - was that super expensive?

Rockman was Y103000
Bucky was Y67000.

Both bought from Suragaya flagship store in Shizuoka. I saw a video of the store and it looked amazing. Since I had a JR rail pass and the store was 4 minutes from the station walking I decided to stop there on my way to Nagoya for an hour or so. Its quite an amazing store I could of been in there for hours. I actually ran out of money before I saw everything, to spend more I needed wife approval. In the end she put those 2 games on her AMEX and said "Its better to buy it now, then regret it and want to come back". What a lovely woman I've got. As a result, I ended up getting the other 5 Rockman games which are considerably cheaper. I didn't really mean to get them all, but shop after shop they had 3,4,6. 2 and 5 were bought for me by Kidshoreyuken along with Shienryu and Salamander, we agreed to meet up and got tipsy in a bar it was a great night.

Castlevania NES was pretty much mint for Y20000 from Beep in Akiba. I was going to get the FC version which is much more expensive, so I thought why not.

The rest were bought from Nagoya (hard off's, lucky cats) and Akihabara. About 15 titles were from Shizuoka Flagship store.

The game in bubble wrap is Over Obj, new from the Tokyo radio store near Akiba station. I heard from here they sell copies of it there and sure enough, there it was.

You should note that most of what I bought including the games from the flagship store were tax free, so you can knock 10% off those prices. If you present your passport they look for the stamp, take a picture and knock the 10% off.

I wasn't going to Japan for cheaper prices, I was going to get CIB games in next to new condition. Since everywhere I look online I see trashy ripped, squished and worn games. If you look at youtubes online you can see a lot of stores have next to new or newish looking games, but finding them online at least for me was a challenge. And I love going to Japan. Overall its an expensive joy for me, but I get a holiday, go game hunting and find little treasures. For most on this forum, they do not share my passion but I'm ok with it.

The other expensive games were Circus Charlie FC, Go go ackman 3 SFC, Flying hero SFC, Shienryu SS, Salamander FC, Pepsi Man PS1. The rest for the most part were under Y10000 each. Some were under Y1000.

Unfortunately, the most expensive game I really wanted I couldn't find. Doremi Fantasy, SFC. It seems you cannot find it for love nor money these days. Thats 3 trips empty handed now since 2018. I'm thinking I might have to go get one from ebay, but for now they do not meet my condition stanards.

For neorichieb1971,

How much was the classic Namco PSX game of Ridge Racer Type 4? And did you pick up a Jogcon to play it with? The Jogcon is also compatible with PS2 Ridge Racer V.

The bonus second disc featuring high-spec 60fps framerate of Ridge Racer is quite something.

Ridge Racer Type R4 was Y980 from Retro Gaming Camp in Akiba. A few pickups in the picture were of games I once owned but sold again, only to regret it. When I found RR Type R4 in brand new condition for that price I couldn't resist it. I almost let it go on the basis that the store only accepted cards for purchases over Y1000, but the wife jumped in with a Y1000 bill and saved the day again. I never got the jogcon. Strangely I avoided the hardware sections for the most part, simply because of weight and space restrictions in my suit case. Yes, part of the reason to get RR Type R4 was for the Z buffered Ridge Racer disc. Street Fighter Zero PS1 was also purchased for Y250 for the Biohazard preview on the disc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRuJeR_CkWM

I only wish I could get Harmful park for Y980 as well. Even crappy shooters like Kyuuin go for $100's of dollars these days.

I wish I could find a copy of it at all.
It seems like one of those ones you can't spot even in the glass cases of Book-Off and Hard-Off anymore, at least 'round my way.

Thanks for the detailed report, though!

So after 2 months of waiting for UK customs I got my USA haul.

Snes titles are repros - Doremi Fantasy (which I already have but its faulty so hopefully this one works perfectly). This title was on my wanted list in Japan but I can't find it.
The other title I didn't even buy, it must have been put in the same package as Doremi Fantasy, I believe its a repro of Treasure of Rudra, the last Squaresoft game for the Super Famicom (Japan only). This one is probably a translation pack.

I don't advertise it but I love my hifi. So we have a Blu ray audio disc of Alannis Morissettes "Jagged little pill".
In the bottom left, a SACD of Simon and Garfunkels "Parsley Sage, Rosemany and Thyme".

The N64 cartridge is for a controversial project that I am doing. For any Japanese imports I bought Day 1 that are heavy or semi mild on the Japanese I am buying crappy USA cartridges and switching the ROM's for the English language. So my mint Japanese cartridge will house an American ROM inside it. The game is Mario Tennis 64. I've done the same for Pilotwings, Star Fox and Wave race.

The Japanese PS1 game is long on my wanted list of semi hidden gems. Its a title called "Ten Made Jack". A PS1 exclusive. I couldn't find it in Japan but a USA seller put it up on ebay so I nabbed it. I started with 3 hidden gems on PS1 and now have 2 of them, the other was "Oh No!". I only have one PS1 hidden gem to get now, but I won't mention it as only one exists on ebay and i'll probably nab it soon.

The plastic protectors are for the smallest of Famicom game boxes. Namcot and early releases had no trays inside, just space for the cart and a tiny manual. This is represented by "Tennis". You can get the middle sized and large sized protectors anywhere but the smallest size is nigh on impossible to find.

I bought Jackal in pieces, starting with the box/manual. Then added the cartridge from elsewhere. Then I bought the Nintendo inner case for the cart as well. So now I have complete Jackal and I must say the end product is pretty amazing looking. Jackal was released at a time when politics and gaming clashed, Jackal was banned from the UK and possibly Europe as well as it doesn't seem to have a release at all in PAL land. So I am happy to have landed this in my collection.

Frogger was the last Genesis title ever released officially. Weird I know..

Ms Pacman Maze on the Dreamcast is also a non release in the PAL land. It must have fallen victim to the sudden surrender to PS2 as it made USA release but not PAL. PS1 and N64 got versions of it I think. So nice to get the English language version of this title.

And lastly Timon and Pumbaa's jungle games. Another very late release for the SNES in the USA in 1995/6.

What's weirder is that Hasbro released an entirely rebooted Frogger game with 3D graphics similar to Pac Man World around this time. It used exactly the same box art as the Genesis release, but the Genesis version was just the arcade version of the game on a cart.

It's almost like someone got their wires crossed about what they were releasing and then were just like okay wtf why not.

I already have the Switch OLED plus Hori joy-cons (to have a proper d pad when using it as a handheld) so I wanted to try out the Lite. As a handheld, I wanted a device that's just one piece, because those Hori joy-cons are just attached to it obviously, and if you just want to hold the device without a table to let your hands rest on, the Switch OLED is just a bit too wide for that so I never find the right position when playing in bed. The Switch Lite is more like what I want it to be like when using the Switch as a handheld.

The Retrofrog RoTATE Stand for both LCD & OLED Switch is great to be propped on your stomach or on a table/desk + the ability to tate in either 90 degrees or 270 degrees (it saves one from having to buy a dedicated heavier tablet stand with adjustable height/swivel capability for the Switch anyways). Unfortunately, Retrofrog hasn't made a RoTATE Stand setup for the Switch Lite yet -- it'd be nice to have that particular option on hand. Doubt it if Nintendo would manufacture/sell an OLED Switch Lite variant though.

Picked up the Bitmap Bureau Collection earlier this week, and the Run 'n Gun book from Bitmap Books (no relation) arrived at almost the same day. That thing's a hefty boy.

I've been somewhat curious about Bitmap Bureau's games (my fingers keep want to type Bitmap Brothers...) but never enough to actually buy any of them. This collection seemed like a good deal, especially with the games being all patched up on-cart. I was especially looking forward to trying Final Vendetta out, as I've always been kind of interested in beat'em ups, but whenever I try one I lose my interest pretty quickly, usually due to the common complaints about the genre.

And I was happy to discover that Final Vendetta struck a chord with me, and it alleviates some of those issues people (or myself, anyway) usually have. The move set is good - not too much options so it overwhelms the player, but enough for different situations and to play around with. I love the inclusion of an easy back-attack, and being able to run, sidestep up and down the screen, AND attack enemies on ground. And your special attack recharging so it can be used without hurting yourself was a great decision, I feel. Enemies also aren't damage sponges, they go down fairly fast. And the game's length is nice 'n short, with a full run taking only around 30 minutes. Some of the more praised beat'em ups seem to take around an hour for a clear, and that's just way too long for my taste.

I actually 1CCed the game already on Hard, with Claire. Which leads me to believe that the game's overall on the easy side, or Claire is just overpowered thanks to her easy juggling which even most bosses are susceptible to. I'll give the other characters a proper go as well.

The rest of the games in the collection seem pretty solid too, though I've only given XenoCrisis one go and a handful on Battle Axe. I think the latter could do with a slightly more zoomed out view, but otherwise seems like a fun shooter. It gives me some Jackal vibes.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I was gifted the FPS one, and I rarely feel like cracking it open because, despite looking lovely, it's just too damn big.
Bit hard to read a potted history of Powerslave/Exhumed in bed with a cinderblock dangling over your face.

Thanks for the reminder to actually boot up Xeno Crisis, too - no idea why I've put it off long as I have.

For Arino,

SCEI released an update to play PS3 Ridge Racer 7 in 3D if so desired (if played on a 3D HDTV setup) -- it's a paid update, however. This was back in 2010-2014 era when it was still possible to buy a 3D HDTV at retail along with the 3D Bluray players and movies as well. Of course, the PS3 doubles as a dedicated 3D Bluray player as well through a free firmware update.

And how's the gameplay of that DC GD-Rom disc of Dolphin Blue? The Etsy based seller, Nights into Dreamcast, sells this particular DC GD-Rom game title, indeed, amongst other DC & Atomisewave GD-Rom disc based game titles.

Thank you, I am aware of this update and I do remember that 3D time lol. I bought a 3D plasma by Samsung in 2011. Plasmas had a short comeback at the time and were considered the nowadays OLEDs (better blacks than LED). I did like its image a lot but the TV was completely useless for games so I didn't keep it in the long run. I will never forget my lag test with it. I turned on Ikaruga on the Xbox 360 and as soon as the first bullet was about to hit me, I pressed left. Nothing happened. Then a second later my ship started moving but it was way too late, it still caught the bullet. It was hilarious.

I haven't played Dolphin Blue yet because I can't find my Dreamcast cables and stuff. I can barely walk into the room where it probably is, need to tidy up first.
Last time I played it on Atomiswave I loved it, but that was ages ago.

It's a "conversion", it even says so on the pictures booklet inside.

It's the DC version
It's a "conversion", it even says so on the pictures booklet inside.
I was just saying because an Atomiswave bootleg would be a cart to me. Not a disc that runs on the DC.

It's a bootleg DC game conversion made from the Atomiswave rom. English is not my native tongue.

Nerd shit. This comapny JADA is making (affordable) SSF2X characters in 6"-7" scale. I only have Ryu and Chun Li, but about half of the characters are already in production or for sale, it's looking like they'll be able to complete the roster.
Oh they also have a Megaman line which is crazy good too!

Yes indeed! I mostly collected the NECA predators, but some of their other movie nostalgia figures are incredible too.

Pennsylvania has good retro stores, who knew:

I have no idea if the Retron's any good, but I've need a new NES-ish console for a while, so why not.

And the Night Trap is probably the rarest thing there, the original PC ""director's cut"" rerelease.

Copyright-fucked, IP-hoarding late stage capitalism timeline meant I didn't bat an eyelid at that sentence til I got to the rating's boxout.
Just, "oh, this is what we're doing today? i guess".

Hahaha a friend was messing around with AI creating fictional cover arts so I said "type in 'Galaxian reboot made by Blizzard' lol" and I thought the result was rather authentic
