Remakes?

Its not really clear.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

There's a trailer for Gimmick Special Edition on youtube. Looks like the original with added features; rewind is shown in the trailer.

They released a video last week with (barely) more details:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx5QNoqR8dQ

They announced 3 game re-releases of sorts (plus a couple of soundtracks).

The games are:

Ikki Unite:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2061150/Ikki_Unite/

Gimmick! Special Edition:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaHzshMmRkU

And a 2023 re-release of Ufouria: The Saga.

At the end of the video, they hint at various other titles (4, at least; I guess it's re-releases of existing titles), and a remake.

Let's be realistic, Sunsoft is long gone, and their "return" will mostly be about re-releases of older titles (which are welcome), and at best we will be looking at external partnerships for one or two remakes.
Considering I loved Blaster Master Zero 1 and 2 by Inti Creates (I found 3 to be a disappointment, compared to the previous two games), I'm optimistic they may partner with companies that will inject some new blood into some of their older IPs.

I hoped the version of Mr. Gimmick would include the updated graphics and OST from the EXA version, but it looks like it probably won't. Rather shame, that version is probably locked to few lucky people for a long time.

Sunsoft from like 1988 through like 1992 were in straight beast mode. From '92 through Astra Superstars in '98 for the most part they were still pretty good. Unfortunately the shift to 3D was clearly not kind to them. But it's great that someone at Sun Corporation remembered Sunsoft was a thing and decided their back catalogue was worth revisiting (or was offered a convincing enough cheque by a would-be licensee, I don't know what the deal is here).

It will never happen, EXA exclusives sadly will always be stay that way. Two of their CEOs is very active in some of discord servers and they keep their persistence because "muh exclusivity" and yada yada.

Looks like Gimmick is being packaged in a similar emulator wrapper used by City Connection, so make of that what you will. Basically, NES romz up for grabz

Bit Wave's Toaplan ports are apparently of varying quality, but I will say the following:

-Their Batsugun might be the definitive version.

-They've done a lot of post-release patches trying to get it right

-Their CRT filter is actually pretty good as far as these things go.

-Lots of good display options which should in theory make it easy to play on my CRT, this will be tested sometime next week.

I'd love to see them do Journey to Silius.
King's Field IV is the best Souls game.

The bitwave guys (great passionate guys btw, i had them at several events before they merged with embracer) previously did a game called wunderling :https://youtu.be/jbqR6IBhcLg?si=rwSJbq6xBW5E6ld3

A very cool gimmick-like puzzleplatformer, ive heard gimmick 2 is going to be like a mix between the two. :) while a little diffrent im very confident they will treat the IP with respect.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn’t sure if this would be their first original game, but wunderling dx looks sick! Had to add it to my steam wishlist
