Arcadia Magazine...

Post by Harlequin »

Hi

I contacted the website for Arcadia Magazine about a yearly
subscription but they dont mail out the magazine outside Japan

Is there anyway i can get my hands on this magazine?

Also is it worth getting it, as its the only Arcade Magazine i have
found and I know its all in Japanese, but I still want it
to see whats happening in the Japanese Arcade scene, as the scene in
Australia is C.R.A.P. 8)

I've been buying Arcadia every month since January 05, and they do a fantastic job of covering shooters. They would have maps, strategies(in Japanese of course), concept art, etc.

If only I could read Japanese.

I can get you guys Arcadias for way cheaper than that. I've been buying back issues at one store for about $2.75 apiece, Gamest mags too. I'm up to about 65 issues -_-'''

But yea if anyone wants new ones, I can hook you up as long as I'm in Japan.

I'm trying not to think about it. GP, in your experience is it worth it to ship a lot at once or does it not really matter? Also, how much is one issue to the states from here, if you can recall.

Getting about 30 pounds of magazine home is not sitting too well with me, but some of these Gamest's are priceless. A shooter issue with articles on what it's like to die with bombs in stock...what's not to love.

Edit: Just flipped through one issue and saw a Typing of the Dead tournament where they had a bunch of secretaries compete. Best magazine ever.

Hey bro

I saw your posts about the mags from japan. If you ever get it figured out with shipping and such, please let me know.

I'd love to pick up a lot of back issues of Arcadia.

I bought a complete collection of Saturn Magazine ages ago. They were massive. If I'm not mistaken, the best I could do was 12-15 magazines, for 3000 or 3500 yen. If you check out the Japanese Post's website, they've got it listed. Just look for the heaviest SAL package, and that's what you'll have to do w/ a lot magazines (or carry them home on trips).

That's actually not as bad as I thought it'd be. I won't be making too many trips back home but you can be sure that when I do I'm bringing as much shit as I can carry on the JR. (lol when I came here I lugged around a suitcase of 30 volumes of Berserk...a man's gotta have his priorities straight).

Seeing as how several folks are interested in getting these mags I'll start buying more up. I'll make a trading station thread shortly--stay tuned!

Is the shipping fee just a one time only deal, or is it with every issue? Because, otherwise, that's a fantastic price!

BTW, how's Video Game Collector for shmups?

You have to pay that with each issue, hence it's a bit pricey.

I don't think I understand the question. Of course, you have to pay for shipping for every single package shipped to you, unless of course the buyer is nice enough to pick up the tab. I know none that would ship anything as heavy as a magazine for free.
(lol when I came here I lugged around a suitcase of 30 volumes of Berserk...a man's gotta have his priorities straight).
I think I can beat that. I rode a local train from Narita to Shizuoka w/ 4 pieces of luggage. LOOONG story.

Harlequin, no need to edit your post I'd be glad to provide a scan or two.

Here's a sample of one of the many Ikaruga strategy sections:

If you have any Japanese bookstores around where you live you can usually find Arcadia magazines. You can out here in LA at least. :)

That's how I get mine at the moment. They are pricey though. About $14 apiece after shiping and tax.

Coolness! www.ikaruga.co.uk has at least one bullet map of Ikaruga.

@Gajin, did the Saturn Magazine just come out in Japan, or was there one here in the US?

I've never heard of Berserk. And what about Video Game Collector?

There were a few in Japan:
Saturn Fan
Sega Saturn Magazine
Dengeki Saturn

and then two smaller runs, which came w/ CD-Roms every issue:
Tech Saturn
Sega Saturn Super

Probably something else I'm missing.

There is an Iwase bookstore in my city, but I haven't ever seen an Arcadia mag there for sale. No trouble finding Famitsu crap though.

I got tired of bothering friends and relatives in Japan for a 'stupid' magazine every month. I get Arcadia (and the occasional Amusement Journal) from mr.ermine nowadays. Costs me $5 more an issue, but worth it for the speed+reliability, and no guilt.
B. Are there any Arcade Magazines in English
Yes, but I doubt you will find them very interesting or worthwhile (analogous to searching for diamond fields in the Canadian tundra). Example - Replay.

If you're going towards the max weight limits and want the cheapest (and are willing to wait longer, accept more risk), Surface mail is the way to go. SAL is twice as much.

Pretty sure I did get a quote on surface. I looked at the same list.
1kg = 1800 yen. Yikes. This will get pricey, fast. Someone go weigh 10 Arcadias and see what they weigh.
