i could charge mine on a windows PC and it would never unpair. Did you install different drivers or did you press the PS button while charging? I only used the normal cable that came with the PS3, no other chargers.
Could be, don't have a Windows machine. On a Mac or Playstation it seems to immediately pair and a dumb charger with only power doesn't work. I have since acquired two of the official DS chargers so I'm good in any case.
