They'd have the Muslim vote locked down forever if they could get off the "they're all terrorists" thing. I mean they already get how it works on the ground and that it's not everybody, MAGA is full of terrorists. There's no way the Proud Boys and the judge's-family-threatening lone wolves couldn't learn a ton from holding a halal BBQ and swapping tips with ISIS and the Taliban. They already openly envy them.

Thank you. As a German, nothing annoys me more than this feigned ignorance/ pseudo outraged bullshit. If you want to vote for a party that hates Arabs, Turks, and brown people, at least be honest about it, but don't give me that "You call everyone that doesn't agree with your leftist views a Nazi!"-bullshit.

Ah yes. The Germanic people, aka Barbarians and Nazis.

Neat. It's entirely possible I have family roots there. Or not. Or maybe. Or not. Does it matter?

AfD only has about 10% of the seats in the Bundestag, so it's not really fair to pin them on all of Germany. They're just loud.

If you're American it's not at all unlikely. One of the not talked about cultural elements of the US is that German was the second most spoken language after English at the beginning of the 20th century. It explains a lot about why America sat on the sidelines of both World Wars until drawn into them part way. There wasn't a universally preferred side in either conflict until the country got involved in fighting, and then wrote a different mythology.

I've never blamed German people as a whole for the nazis. Hitler was only made chancellor because of politicking by the conservative party and concern over the gains the communist party had made, not because they were initially popularly elected. Many went to jail or died resisting them. And the country did reject them as a whole after the war and honestly processed what happened after enough years had passed, when they could have taken another road if they'd wanted to. Japan rejected militarism after the war, but nobody in school learns what happened during it. Media there very often focuses on the victims of the atomic bombs as the story of the war.

Perhaps because they didn't have to pay a price for Hitler's idiocy, some American German families who skew rightward do seem to have passed down a historical resentment despite being on the winning side of the conflict, including President Drumpf's. Justice Alito's wife was just caught on tape getting kind of extra about how leftists shouldn't mess with her because of her German heritage as well. I don't see the point. Hitler wasn't a great leader, he was an impulsive sociopath who left one of the most educated and technologically advanced countries on Earth a smoking ruin with deep historical scars to bear. The nazis didn't represent any kind of greatness that the German people weren't perfectly capable of without them.

I'm referencing Martha-Ann Alito and her thick comments about how "German" she is--and somehow dangerous(?) because she has a relative that lived inside the borders of modern Germany.

She's a nutter. That asshole is American and she's from Kentucky.

Furthermore, borders have been redrawn in Europe over the last century (and beyond). The fact that your current distant relatives may live in Germany doesn't mean your distant immigrant relative identified as "German". And, why does any of that matter? (It doesn't)

A video is circulating, of Harvard students who know nothing about world geography or languages and are asking themselves "why should we know these things?"
I find it terrifying, for several reasons...
1) how do these people get access to certain prestigious universities?
2) these people will be the managers of important companies of tomorrow...
3) a total lack of curiosity and thirst for knowledge...something that should be the basis of any student..

then they say the world will be fine tomorrow...

Sure, they have the funds to still churn out enough actual good students to maintain their reputations, but this is by no means a rare or new phenomenon. Remember that George W. Bush graduated from Yale and Harvard, and that man could barely string a coherent sentence together half the time.

I spent a lot of time in this thread saying I thought Trump had no shot in November. After watching las night's debate highlights of Biden looking exactly like every over the top statement Republicans have ever made about him...yeesh. Obviously it's going to be an aggregate of how he appears over the course of the campaign and he doesn't usually look that out of it, but consider my optimism tempered.

Democrats have to seriously be thinking about getting him to step down before the primary now, right? All they really need is a generic church attending white guy with slightly above average charisma, no criminal record and an age under 65. Any average game show or talk show host should do the trick.

Nope. In the last week, SCOTUS has removed government oversight, outlawed the existence of homeless people, and legalized corruption.

Trump is giving the people in power (and the owners of the press) everything they want. There's nobody with enough charisma to overcome the power of the Republican R's: rich, racists, religious fanatics, rednecks, and rubes.

Shifting to Kamala Harris is no better. She's another classic Dem "It's My Turn" candidate and most Americans have an unfavorable opinion of her. Even worse, almost 60% of Americans don't believe she can win an election today.

The party lacks both the leadership and courage to step up, here. Barring a miracle, we're doomed. I've already seen a "Nobody likes me, but I'm not Trump and I have lady parts" campaign--and that will bring in fewer votes now than it did in 2016.

You can't get elected solely because you have a vagina. Oh, I'm sure a lot of people will get triggered and march on their warpath of outrage. I'm not permitted to offer valid criticism. Because, feminism supposedly stops all thought at the existence of a vagina. I'm not allowed to think. Fuck.

As it stands, Harris is unelectable. I don't care about gender or race, but Harris is miles away from where she needs to be. I don't believe she can do it. Who can win?

All they need to do is wheel someone out with actual energy and charisma, because nobody wants to vote for an old loser like the current two. That's it! It's literally all they need to do to win.

Gavin Newsom is right there. He looks the part, probably isn't stupid enough to screw it up, and appears to be playing this just right. Give white america one good look at that smile and haircut and it's game over, especially when his immediate contrasts are Biden and Trump.

On what platform?

"I'm not Trump and I'm not prehistoric" isn't particularly compelling. I suppose it might be enough to barely win--or not. Most of our aristocrats (like all the others in human history) don't care either way.

And, you're still walking a tightrope on the Middle East and the border. That's really all we can do, but it's forbidden to say it out loud.

There's no instant clean solutions to those issues and everyone goes scorched earth if you tell them the truth. Honesty is the fastest road to failure in this world. Corruption and lies are the only keys to success. (I'm not suggesting that's anything new; it's always been that way.)

Could run on domestic issues and trying to undo the damage the neoliberals are doing, but that would upset the people pulling the strings. We're fucked.

It really doesn't matter. The only people who haven't made up their minds by now are idiots, and idiots are easily swayed by someone who looks and sounds the part.

Actual policy is kind of irrelevant to your basic question of "who can win?"

Nope. The Dems are stuck with the Zombie for the full stretch. For the same reason they ran him for re-election in the first place: They don't have anyone else.

Kamala is hated by many. Passing her over would enrage others within their party. Biden is probably the Dems' most popular candidate who still falls within the scope of what the current Democratic party (new democratic aristocracy) are willing to offer. They could select Bernie or another Bernie-like popular candidate, but why would they do that? They spent so much effort to sabotage Bernie the first time. The Dems would rather lose to Trump than give anything substantial to the poor or working class.

This is probably the most insulted I've ever felt by my choice of candidates. Who do I vote for? Chaotic Evil Narcissist or The Walking Dead? I usually vote but I'm seriously debating not voting as a protest against this farce.

I'm a filthy commie who loves Bernie, but you do realize the man's even older than Biden, right? This makes no sense even if you want to pander to the lefties.

Nobody wants either of these jabronis, and americans are fucking stupid. Just give them someone who looks the part and democrats will run away with it. Bill Clinton did, Obama did. Hell, Biden did it last time! But he aged out of the part and it's time to recast.

Gavin Newsom takes the popular vote by at least 10%, and I don't even really like the guy that much.

Hope you're proud of yourselves. You know who you are.

It wasn't her turn. Now, an American president is above the law when the Supreme Court conveniently decides. Where will this lead?

Thanks again for fucking us all. I can post proof that Democratic leaning Sanders supporters like me voted for her anyway. It wasn't me.

Can confirm.
GF did a fellowship at a top 3 Ivy League program, and stated dozens of times, that in terms of facilities, staff, curriculum, etc …. BIG-10 universities wiped the floor with this FAMOUS Ivy League school. Said much of the same, it’s a bunch of nepotistic donors, all wanting their underqualified genetic defect having, unexceptional children being babysat by equally undeserving east coast name-dropping sleazbag professors.

Most Fortune 500’s outside that nepotistic downward spiral are now actively cautious of hiring Ivy League graduates.
