I believe there was a Salamander anime movie..

Are we talking about movies spun off from games? Because I thought the Macross games were spun off the anime/manga...

There's a Spriggan anime, though I'm not sure if it's related to the games or not...

Mazinger Z had a shmup made after it, I recall. I'm not sure about this one, but was Area 88 (aka UN Squadron) based on an anime? I think it might have been...Also, while it's not TV/movie related, I believe that there was a manga series created after Batsugun, called "Skull Hornets."

It isn't. I think the only thing they share in common is their names.

There is a live-action GunHed movie... however, it has practically nothing to do with the PC-Engine game.

There is a Twinbee anime, though (it's only two episodes from what I recall).

And Area 88 began as a manga.

In borderliner territory, there is an anime based on Panzer Dragoon. Unfortunately, it's crap.

It's not related AFAIK. Haven't seen it though. Cover

The Salamander anime is pretty fun to watch, in a slightly campy sort of way.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

It's been a while since I watched the Spriggan anime, but from what I remember, the action was pretty badass, and bloody. The story is pure crap though.

Don't worry about fansubs for the Salamander anime, I'm pretty sure it's available on DVD with English subtitles already!

The Bokan games and Gatchaman Shooting were based on old anime series of course.

hmmm, well wasn't there a series of movies in the '80s that featured a P-38 Lightning? That's a tie-in to 1943 right?

iatneH is correct, the DVD has english subtitles that aren't even engrishy. They do have a bad habit of disappearing from time to time, but it's not too distracting. I got my copy from eBay, think I paid $10 or so for it. But I haven't seen any new copies around for a while, there's just some western movie with the same name starring Anthony Quinn and Christopher Lee.

It's easy. Anime is animation and manga is comics.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm trying to contribute here. There was a shooter based off of Tekkaman Blade, on the SNES.

Holy shit I just found a wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uchuu_no_K ... aman_Blade

If I'm not wrong, Magical Lyrical whatever... Argh, that Nanoha thing is everywhere. It has an anime.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanoha

And Maria-sama has some sort of animated stuff too, right? (Maria-sama has Le Soeur Du Barrage, that doujin stg where you play with the mouse)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru#Anime

Both are those all-girls series.

Pity about the Panzer Dragoon OVA. I watched it and, indeed, it's crap. The music was the only redeeming value. I wonder if Yoshitaka Azuma (the composer) did anything else...

All I've seen that's close is a Shikigami no shiro manga, never seen any movies myself.

Yes, Area 88 was released as an anime series. There is the updated Area 88 anime series with CGI for the fighter jets scenes.
