Mr Driller G, Cyber Lead, JVS questions thread

Post by D »

I got this pcb and I'm in the process of restyling an OK Baby cab for this game in particular. (the game is not my taste, but it's a nice title nevertheless)
Please answer my questions if possible.
1 what games have the ability to operate the Cyber Leads led marquee besides Tekken 3 and Soul Edge?
2 Does Mr Driller G have the ability to operate the Cyber Leads led marquee?
3 What is jvs? where can I find info? it is the Jamma 2 standard in Sega and AW cabs?
4 What are the jvs options in Mr Driller G? How do I activate them? ground the last/first pin somewhere?
5 anyone have a manual for Mr Driller G (it should be Japanese as Mr Driller G is jap only title)
6 anyone have a jap mr driller 2 manual? I have the english one and the jvs options are supposedly unselectable.
7 anyone ever saw a Mr Driller G marquee? what is it like? can't find anything on this game.
8 Anyone have a cyber lead manual somewhere?
would it be possible to link merge this hardware forum with Technical forum on killercabs? that would be awesome. to have a section of this forum linked to that of killercabs. I believe it should be possible as both forums seem to run on the same engine.
Would that not be an awesome undertaking for the mods?
Who's in favor? raise hands

I believe Mr. Driller G was developed for the system 12 board, but got released on system 10. System 10 is not JVS compliant, although the bios seems to think it could be with that greyed out JVS menu option. The only JVS connectors on the system 10 board is for power, thats it. It does have a nifty interlace/non-interlace feature, but both at 15khz.

Ahaaaah, that makes so much sense.
Thanks Dave,
The interlace non-interlace option is great to have on a board, you can even set idividual rgb values, all other namco boards seem to have similar options. On my monitor the interlace flickers a little bit, but with more detail 740x480 while with non-interlace everything gets downscaled (seems that way) to 256x224.
I guess interlace always equals flickering, on what monitor will this interlace flicker effect be the least effident anyway? My guess is that interlace will flicker on whatever setup you have right?

There is an adjustment you can make on your arcade monitor to reduce the flicker to almost nothing (I forget which knob, but one of them changes the sync slightly to match). The title screen looks rock solid on my cab...but during gameplay, the fast movement will still show some sprite "tearing" simply because thats the nature of interlaced signal. This is why interlaced signal is so bad with shmups...all the fast motion makes almost all sprites on the screen start to "tear".

*jaw dropped*
It works, it was indeed the V-Hold, the button for the vertical sync adjustment.
I'm very greatful, thanks buddy
For other people trying this, try turning it VERY slowly, because you have to find the exact spot.
The H-hold (horizontal sync adjustment) doesn't seem to do that much for the interlace effect!
My picture is clear now, WOW!

LOL, glad you got it worked out. Make sure you set your sticks to 4-way movement-only for more accurate drilling. Then try using a rapid fire circuit set to 30 reams (per the galford circuit/notes http://galford.hp.infoseek.co.jp/sync.html) for faster drilling times.

The Arcade Otaku Wiki claims there may be a JVS sub-board. If so, does anyone know if Mr. Driller G supports the marquee? It really sucks that G is the superior game but wouldn't support the marquee :(
