hey sup
If you're looking for a good arcade, Gameworks is the last place you wanna go. Unless you win a lot of money and you can buy a $35 One Day Pass, but even then it'll still feel like a ripoff. The only reasons to go there would probably be the US version Mr. Driller, Sonic The Fighters, and their old-school crap (Robotron 2084, a really fucked version of Ms. Pacman - where points are awarded 400, 400, 1600, 1600 for ghosts, and their recovery time is very fast - Missile Command with a rather large trackball, Centipede with a rather small trackball, Gorf, Space Invaders, monochrome Galaga, and a Xevious that eats your credits)....yeah. Raiden Fighters is 75 cents. xD
Anyways, here's sort of a rundown of where crap is at
-New York New York: Raiden Fighters, Mars Matrix (rather crappy sticks), Espgaluda
-The Orleans (off the strip, on Tropicana Ave.): Raiden Fighters Jet (set to like...5 lives per credit or something)...there's Tekken 5 there too and a whole bunch of fighters and Initial D/Wangan Midnight games...hey the arcade's owned by Namco whaddaya expect
-Tropicana: Strikers 1945 (was in absolute crap condition last I saw it...doubt it's been repaired)
-Circus Circus: Raiden Fighters 2, Raiden II (all the way in the BACK of the Miday arcade :/)..Defender, Metal Slug 3 and 5. At the Adventuredome you'll find no shmups at all under the Roller Coaster (you will find abother Metal Slug 5 though, in a Mortal Kombat cabinet), but you'll find quite a lot of Bemani music games on the 2nd level (by the Virtual Reality Zone), if you're into that sorta thing.
-Bally's: Raiden Fighters Jet 2000 (definitely a bootleg)
As far as the Strip's concerned, that's about it as far as shmups go or at least the places I've been to anyway. Havent checked out the Monte Carlo, Suncoast, Santa Fe Station, or some of the other farther away casinos in town.. On the old forums, someone mentioned seeing a 1944 cabinet somewhere, and a few others. Haven't been able to find it although I'd like to. Excalibur got rid of Gigawing (as well as 1/3rd of their total machines)...and most of the aforementioned places have Ultracade machines with their fair share of classic shmups on 'em...Luxor has an original Asteroids cocktail cabinet somewhere...Caesar's Palace closed their IMAX ride, and the arcade within as well.
If you're the type of person who'd actually drive 35-40 minutes to go to an arcade, take I-15 South to Primm...there you'll find
-Primm Valley: Strikers 1945 Plus...and ZOMG DEAD OR ALIVE 2
..think there was a Chase HQ there too
-Buffallo Bill's: Raiden II, Strikers 1945 II (by McDonalds), Twin Eagle, PLANET HARRIERS (!!!1one), and stuff like Irritating Maze, Battletoads, Polygonet Warriors, Ehrgeiz, Off The Wall, and the absolute CUTEST Mini-sized NeoGeo MVS with Samurai Showdown (again, by McDonalds)
..My crappy scores should still be on Strikers II and Plus
If anyone else has anything to add, go ahead...I'd reccomend NYNY for Galuda alone, although the only game there that saves high scores is Raiden Fighters....which has a 1st place score of over 74 million at the moment.
Mary K's Arcade and GameLand are both closed, I'd also like to know where their shmups (if any) were relocated to, if anyone has that info.
GameLand's now obsolete (since the place closed) site listed Radiant Silvergun and R-Type as some of their games, I'd LOVE to find out where the fuck THEY are. There are also verious casinos and arcades in Henderson (south of Vegas), which might house some shmups as well...I'll try to research if possible o_o
Hope you have fun on yer vacation or whatever it is that you're doing
