I don't know if this will be applicable to all models but I own an 55A8H and I updated the firmware several weeks ago and didn't attempt to play any games until this morning and right away something seemed wrong. Input seemed way more delayed than it should. I was using a Genesis 2 Mini which has *some* lag but it shouldn't have this much lag with a TV that should only have 20ms of latency and we have played the same game on it on two other TVs recently with less than 30ms display lag and it was just fine.
Before I even said anything my older brother who doesn't know anything about this stuff says "uh is it just me or does it seem a bit delayed????".
So I busted out my Time Sleuth and low and behold the TV now has a consistent 200+ms of lag outside of game mode (Holy smokes) and in Game Mode it varies between 60-200+ms. Turning on MotionFlow increases the baseline to 70 or so.
I tried every input and every setting I could think of and the results are all the same.
(Bad pictures)

Which is something i've never seen with my TS before. The measurements are always consistent except for the CCFL TVs i've tested)

Please do not update your TV's firmware. Not only is the lag tripled at minimum , the apps constantly crash and occasionally freeze so bad you have to unplug the TV to get it to unfreeze.
Here I was thinking I was glad they finally updated the security patch with the upgrade to Android 10 but boy I wish I knew.
Unless they fix this, it pretty much makes it completely unusable for the majority of gaming.

Thanks for the warning. That is really bad. Are you sure that this affects every TV on the list?

I don't know if it will affect them, but this specific firmware update applies to all of those models (Android TV 9 to 10 update) from Sony's website. So I can only assume they fucked some part of the stack up for every model.
But my TV is basically useless for gaming now. So that sucks and considering this was the first firmware update in 1-2 years I doubt they are going to fix it in a timely manner even if I contact them.
Honestly they should be forced to replace TV if they won't fix it. But we all know how this works.
Beyond frustrating.

Anyone considering Sony should also be aware that some of their TV’s aren’t fully compatible with Nvidia 3000 and 4000 GPU’s — the TV’s exhibit audio issues, video dropouts and even rebooting. I have a Sony KD-43X85K, and sometimes it’s impossible to play anything. Both Sony and Nvidia have been aware of the issue for a while now.

Thank you OP, I have a 65X950G and will definitely avoid updating. That's awful that it may have ruined yours.

Trying to contact Sony about this is just as frustrating as there is no option to just e-mail support. And their work hours are the same as mine and I do not have the time during the work day to try to attempt to. I am so busy that the only break I actually get is a 30 minute meal break.
Trying to make a thread in their community section hoping there's an admin or someone who can contact actual support is a bust as well.

Trying to search for ways to downgrade the firmware of an Android TV doesn't come up with much results either.

Just posting an update, doing a full factory reset actually improved the input lag to about 35ms baseline (But fluctuated more when enabling 60hz strobing up to 50ms). So I was just going to try to live with this for a while.

However after a month or two, the input lag baseline is now back up to 69/70ms or so baseline. I thought I was losing my marbles when I tried to play something for the first time today, so I busted out the Time Sleuth again and sure enough it shows input lag in game mode is ~70ms again.

I have never had a TV do something like this, it's insane.

So i'm off to ebay to buy a replacement used main board in hopes it uses the old Android 9 firmware.

Just go LG, it's more geared towards gaming.

I've had longstanding good experience with Sony and this TV was perfectly fine until they fucked it with their firmware update.
I have a perfectly good 1000$+ TV I purchased and if possible I don't want to spend another 1000$+ for something newer so I have a TV I can actually use for playing games.
Either way, a 100$ bet on a new main board is worth the risk to me to fix the issue and then if i'm extra lucky maybe I can get Sony support to actually elevate the issue to the right people.
