ViewSonic VX1655-4K-OLED 16" Portable OLED Monitor

Post by Josh128 »

Since when has such a small 4K OLED been possible?? I thought the reason we didnt have 27" and 32" 4K OLEDs was because the tech was hard to scale that high of a resolution down to that size? Sounds like thats no longer an issue.

It's AMOLED, the same tech used in Smartphones. It is very doable at these sizes.

Wikipedias entry for it does not even have it listed for true 4K--so if its very doable, why has it not been made available in the standard 24"-27" sizes up until now? This seems to be a fairly new development.

AMOLED has problem scaling up, WOLED and similar have problems scaling down.

Look at that pixel layout and ask yourself if it's a good idea for text rendering on larger panels with lower DPI. And 32" 4k OLEDs have already been announced, for both QD-OLED and WOLED technologies.

PenTile style subpixels arent optimal for text for sure, but for 4K on a 27" screen I dont think it would be a big issue. My 60" 1080p plasma has them and while you can definitely notice it on text, if it was on a screen less than half the size with 4x the resolution, I dont think it would cause much of a problem.

I've noticed motion blur issues that shouldn't exist on my OLED phone, though I don't think it's an AMOLED... Like someone else said they've probably gotten poor yields making bigger ones just like LG had poor yields making smaller ones. The 42" C3 OLED is almost always within $100 or less of the 48"
