Any information on Soldier Force?

Post by xexex »

I was just browsing the dojin section on himeyashop and noticed a listing for Soldier Force from Studio Siesta. I really liked AirRade and so I'm definitely intersted in this title, but the pictures didn't seem to represent the gameplay and I couldn't find an online demo. Does anyone know anything more detailed about this game?

I don't think so. AirRade didn't have any and if Soldier Force did, it would probably be in the adult section of himeyashop?

From what I can tell, it's endless. Or at least really damn long. I've reached level 16, and it doesn't look like it's letting up. Then again, the games that it appears to be modeled after (Zanac, Star Force) have buttloads of levels too. Oh...I should say that it's actually pretty boring. The levels run together and, much like Zanac, the bosses aren't all that different. Of the levels I've completed, I think I've met about three different bosses.

Got my copy yesterday and gave it a quick run. I like it, it's a bit easy on defaults (I think I got to Stage 12 on my first run before losing a life) but that's what Nightmare mode is for.

And thank god, you can disable the über-annoying "disappear under the tiles"-function. I must've missed dozens of powerups and Zegs because I was stuck underneath and couldn't get out in time. I also lost few lives to divebombing enemies (whom I normally could've just shot) who happened to hit me just as I came out from under. Defaults be damned, Trap Area = OFF.

There are 2 and 5 minute caravan modes, which I happpen to love. Several maps too, though the only one I tried seemed to be exactly the same thing as normal game. Oddly there are several difficulty levels for the caravan mode, which is stupid, frankly. I'll need to test them more thoroughly, if increased difficulty also means a significant increase in score, then it's ok. I'll make additions to my caravan high-score thread soon...ish.

You can save your own replays, the game asks after finishing any game mode whether you want to save the run. Very nifty.

Oh, and it's all very import friendly. Aside from the installation and initial settings screen, every menu in-game is in english.

I'd recommend this to fans of Soldier and/or Caravan games.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
