For effective levelling, use only primary weapons where possible. Secondaries are situational weapons.
I never thought about this. Do you think it's worth giving up the 10k weapon bonuses and strictly use primaries to level them up? Or is leveling up more of a survival tactic?
My play style is based around getting as many 10k bonuses as possible.

Weapon bonuses are only worth getting if you can get them consistently, else accurate chaining is a better way to go.
For me, full-chaining Stage 3 and Stage 4 will give me 12mil+, and lv33 on A and/or C, ready for Xiga.

IDK, I thought I would hate the scoring based on what I'd heard of it, but having played the game I don't see why it's referred to as being very strict: 95% of the time you should be chaining red enemies.. which means you just need to avoid other colors for a decent score and very competent weapon levels. Way simpler to execute than Ikaruga IMO and obviously less strict than chains that break on really small timers in dodonpachi.

Agreed, and with the exception of stage 5, the segments you chain are pretty short. Contrast with Guwange and it's stage long, game long chaining.

My face turns beat red. I swear to never play a shooting game again. :P

In all seriousness though, other than chaining maybe it's the pace?

Really looking forward to getting this. Still never played it  I remember when I first started picking up import Saturn games just over a decade ago, it was expensive then, but then just continued to soar in price, and I just couldn't justify the purchase. Fast forward today, and 1200 Live Points seems quite reasonable :) Still would love to get the 'original' one day though... ;)

Wow........I play story mode and haven't even managed 12 million yet even though I chain stage 3 and 2 mostly perfectly, and mostly through stage 4 before my inevitable game over -_-.

Yeah.. the 5-A chain is way harder than anything else in the game. I managed to roughly learn all chains up to that point after a week of playing but just completely hit a wall there and eventually stopped playing without improving on it (should've just gone for 1cc then). Must have been ridiculous for people learning it in the arcades without level select etc.

Not good design imo that half of the score constitutes from the last stage while the other half of the score will be trivially easy to obtain compared to it but take way more time.

As far as I'm concerned, I just blow everything up in stage 5. This net me a 1CC at about 7 millions and a real fight against Xiga !

Yeah, if you can chain the earlier stages, you really don't need stage 5 as far as weapon levels are concerned.

Usually, assuming I'm not on my last life or something and therefore have a real shot at the 1cc, I just merry chain the start of 5 and keep it going until it breaks, and then just take out the boss. Usually end with 7 or 8 mil.

I would like to eventually chain that stage. It's not like it requires immense memorization, it's just extremely difficult in execution because so much is going on. It's the wall, for sure.

Requires a lot of both I'd say.. the turrets will end up in unpredictable positions when the walls close which makes for some randomness but obviously you need to memorize the pattern the red enemies spawn in. But yeah, you definitely don't need to chain it for weapon levels. It's just that the level makes up over half of the total score so it's something you need to put a stupid amount of time in learning if you want to go for a high score.

I should have done the same in going for the kill once I die once, definitely doing that next time I start playing the game since I want to 1cc it and pretty much already could have.

Has anyone had trouble with their save files disappearing? I fired this up a few days ago to finish levelling up in story mode, and my file is gone. I know it wasn't something I did.

If you mess with your storage device while a game is saving, or a game crashes while it's saving, it can delete data, and not just the data specific to that game. Has another game crashed for you since you last played Radiant Silvergun?

Skyrim has keeled over once or twice but never while saving, unless it starts autosaving before the loading screens fade out.

This is the only other thing I can think of:

I can remember my own save data being deleted right around the time I started playing. I was doing a lot of quick restarts at the time. If you look in the bottom-right corner of the screen, there'll be a little icon that shows when the game is autosaving. You might be able to move around on menus and select things while it's still saving, maybe even start a new game. I must've interfered with it when I was doing those rapid restarts--canceling options and quickly going into the next game and the like--and it might've corrupted my save file. Now I wait for that little icon to disappear before moving my cursor.

Holy thread revival Batman!

Hi guys. Can't believe I'm posting in a 11 year old thread, lol.

I'm a long time fan of RS, and still have my beloved imported Saturn version to this very day (no working Saturn though). I only recently found out that there was an Xbla version, so my friend kindly donated me his old Xbox One so I could get back into it.

I've been loving re-learning it all again, but I'm having difficulty getting my Score-Attack high scores to upload to the leaderboard. At the end of virtually every go, I get an error message saying it failed to upload the score to the leaderboard, and it asks if I want to re-try. I say yes, and it then asks another 1 or 2 times then it doesn't ask any more (so I assume it's worked) but then the score doesn't show up on the leaderboard. I bought a 1 month Xbox live code (as I wasn't sure if I could upload scores without having Xbox live?) and I am signed in ok. If anyone can let me know if Xbox live is a requirement for posting high scores that would be awesome.

Note, I have been able to upload a high score before though, as I have a score on there already (70th place on Arcade-Very Easy, 3.2m) but I've beaten that score quite a few times now (my best is 4.6m) but it never updates and I'm getting a bit dejected and wondering if I should even bother any more ☹️

I know the game is ancient now, and I may be one of the very few active players at this stage, but what's the point of a leaderboard if it doesn't work. If anyone can offer me some help it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Gold (or whatever it's called now) has never been a requirement for uploading scores to leaderboards. One of the Cave ports on the 360 had broken leaderboards for well over a year, and was only recently fixed. It's possible this will also get fixed at some point.

There is a leaderboard here on the forum as well, although it requires that you play with default settings to submit scores. Also, there's a bunch of strategy threads in the first post there if you're looking for tips to improve. Hope this helps!
