LG C3 OLED TV performance with retro consoles
I was wondering if anyone knows if the LG C3 OLED TVs have the same issues the LG C2 OLED TVs had. Such as the 4:3 aspect ratio added lag. Thinking of buying a LG C1 OLED unless someone can confirm the C3 is issue free. Thanks for any help here

Rtings confirmed that at least the launch firmware also had the 4:3 lag penalty. Though I'm not sure how big of an issue that is with current scalers- the Tink 5X can be overclocked to full 2560x1440 I think, and upcoming 4K scalers shouldn't have a problem putting anything 4:3 in a 16:9 container (DOS 70Hz on the Tink 4K you'll want to drop to 1440p output - only 4:3 mode I can think of).

The added lag isnt noticeable as the display lag is already very low. Not enough of a reason to justify buying an outdated model that wont get the latest software updates. Both C2 and C3 got the update that fixed aggressive screen dimming while the C1 did not.

So you guys believe the C3 should not have lag added when displaying 4:3 aspect ratio? Therefore I should go ahead and buy a C3 worry free of the issues My Life In Gaming had in the video? Thanks for the replies I’m very grateful! Let me know please thanks
Re: LG C3 OLED TV performance with retro consoles
Thats not what they said-- they said launch firmware had the added lag, nobody mentioned if a later firmware fixed it. If you center 4:3 content in a 16:9 resolution via a scaler, then you shouldnt have the added lag. Which scalers and which resolutions are compatible/capable of that is up to you to find out. I didnt think the 5X could do 2560x1440, think its limited to 1920x1440, which would still be 4:3, so you need to verify thats the case and make sure if its is a dealbreaker for you before you plunk down some serious money fo a C3.Just Some Guy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 4:15 pm So you guys believe the C3 should not have lag added when displaying 4:3 aspect ratio? According to RTING's answer here, when set to Original mode 1920x1440 is displayed in 4:3 and not stretched. And from their measurements 1920x1440 in Original mode doesn't have the latency penalty.

Again thanks for the replies you guys are awesome! I guess I should ask this also. Are there any owners of the LG C3 and what do they think of the tv? Would you recommend it for modern and retro gaming etc.? Obviously I’m interested in buying the tv but it’s a scary purchase since it’s quite expensive. Thanks for any and all help guys! You are wonderful

You might want to get a discounted C2, it's virtually identical to the C3.

Says that was done at 120Hz though so can't be 100% sure. The lag is still higher than their regular 2560x1440p 120Hz measurement, so still a 4:3 penalty there, not that it's much. The more important questions for anyone here is of course how 60Hz is handled.L-Train wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 4:59 pm According to RTING's answer here, when set to Original mode 1920x1440 is displayed in 4:3 and not stretched. For C2 vs C3 I'd just buy whatever's cheaper, very minimal improvements for that gen outside of the G3. I'd maybe pay $100-200 more for a C3. New vs refurbished is of course your decision, it's definitely getting harder to find C2's already. C1 I don't think you'll find anywhere outside of used.
@Josh 2560x1440p has been added on the 5X as technically an experimental mode but I haven't heard of units that can't handle the overclock.
I'd really only say the 4:3 lag penalty is an issue these days if you are an OSSC user, though it remains silly on principle and I hope LG gets pressure to fix it.
