NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
Hey guys,
I just finished Tim's kit on my AV Famicom. I'm not sure what to call it but I'm getting a weird jitter/sprite thing going on around my character in the game when they're in front of certain color backgrounds.
I've tried a few different games and it's the same on each. I took the mod board out, popped the PPU back on the original board, turned RGB off on the TV and used composite video and the problem goes away. I tried reflowing everything I can get to on the mod board. I tried different color palettes with the switch I bought from Tim. I took the palette switch off and bridged the 2 pads and no change. My TV is a 32FV300 that I RGB modded myself with a scart output. My RGB modded SNES and N64 work perfectly on it. I have a new scart cable from retro access.
I haven't done anything but install the mod board. I haven't cut any traces or did the voltar ground removal on the port or anything like that yet....
Any ideas?

People are using AI to write forum responses now? (EDIT: The AI post above has been deleted)
OP: Are you using a NESRGB 4? May be worth scanning back through the last few pages on the NESRGB thread (here) to see if any of the recent discoveries/fixes look similar to your issue.

I believe so, I just bought it a few weeks ago.
Thanks! I'll start looking through that thread

Re: NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
I had a bit of a look around, it sounds very similar to the last issue described on this page - "colour fringes on the edge of objects".
It also looks kinda similar to this issue: viewtopic.php?p=1519189#p1519189
Which was resolved in this post: viewtopic.php?p=1523104#p1523104
Not exactly the same but I think it's worth trying to 100pf clock mod to start, and then maybe look into a clock buffer if that doesn't help. May also be worth reaching out to Tim directly if you bought it from them.

I ordered some caps, I'll keep you posted

Tried the 100pg cap and didn't work. Actually completely screwed up the colors and had to take it off.Kez wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 9:46 pmI had a bit of a look around, it sounds very similar to the last issue described on this page - "colour fringes on the edge of objects".

Just sent an email to Tim with HELP in the subject line. Hopefully he replies..
Re: NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
Can you guys recommend someone I can send this in to?
I'm out of ideas and Tim won't email me back..

Try emailing him with your order number in the subject headline, followed by HELP.
This is how mine looked "Shipment Notice for Order #XXXXX - HELP" - He replied to me within a day.

Ok, I'll give it another try. I did say HELP in the subject line but not the order #..TooBeaucoup wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:33 amTry emailing him with your order number in the subject headline, followed by HELP.

There was a very AI-ish reply to the OP, but it's already been removed

Re: NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
I can't promise he'll reply, but I'd imagine he gets TONS of emails with generic subject lines labeled "Help", and I'll bet a lot of those emails are general questions that are already answered on his website, so it wouldn't surprise me that he doesn't have time to sift through all of those emails. When I first emailed him, I did the same thing in my subject, and he didn't reply. As soon as I boldly included ORDER #XXXXX - I got a reply. Good luck, Sir!jm1607 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:20 pmOk, I'll give it another try. Just a quick update. Finally got ahold of Tim. He agrees there's a problem with the rgb board and he's send me another one.
Re: NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
Did you use AI to compose your initial post or any reply in this thread? If so, why and how? Also, to those who somehow suspected this, what gave it away?
Re: NES AV Famicom Tim's RGB mod strange color/sprite issue
The AI remarks have nothing to do with jm1607. There was a post full of generic troubleshooting tips and it had the general flavor of ChatGPT but it got snipped out of the thread. Bothersome and obnoxious that shit crept into an obscure little forum like this.
