Arcade stick mod question HSS-0130

Post by WarChild »

G'day,

I've made my own cab running a Saturn, Dreamcast and 360.
I use a Saturn HSS-0130 ( 2 player Astro City style ) joystick to control Saturn and Dreamcast via adapter.
At the moment, whenever I want to play 360 games I have to move the Saturn Stick off the cab and replace with my Hori RAP VX-SE.

My question is whether it is possible to mount the PCB from the 360 stick inside the Saturn stick and piggy back wires from the arcade stick/buttons on to the 360 PCB/harness. I'd obviously need to wire a couple of the Player 2 buttons to be the guide button and the back button for example. Then I could retain the 360's USB cable and keep the Saturn Arcade stick plugged in to all 3 consoles at once. (will only ever turn one on at a time)

I've seen lots of mentions of the Brook UFB as an alternative method etc but couldn't find anything about doing something similar to this?

Does this sound feasible/possible? Is there anything I might need to consider. I've only really done stick and button swaps/upgrades so this is my first "real tinkering" with the insides, so would appreciate any guidance from the more experienced out there.

Thanks!
Mikey

The Brook Retro Board would be your best bet but only allows the board itself to be hooked up to a single gaming console and not "daisy-chained" to multiple gaming consoles whatsoever (considering it "auto-detects" which gaming console it's hooked up to). The Brook Retro Board is quite robust & versatile -- it even supports the highly regarded & cult favorite PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 (with a DIN interface adapter, of course).

Note: There's no console support for the Atari Jaguar with the Brook Retro Board. There is, however, support for the Sega Saturn (but you'll need an required RJ45 to Saturn cable to interface the SS console to the Brook Retro Board properly). The http://www.arcadeshock.com site sells both the Brook Retro Board & the necessary RJ45 to Saturn adapter cable.

You'll also need to pick an RJ45 to USB/PC (for the Xbox 360) adapter cable along with an RJ45 to Dreamcast adapter cable and you're good to go. Easy as pie.

It's possible, there's nothing special about the encoder board inside. I converted mine to dual 15 pin dsub neo-geo pinout.

Thanks,

I might do a test with a single button piggy backed in and see what happens then.
Will report back ;)

Make sure you've got everything grounded continuously. Will you have 2 different encoder boards? If so, might need to power then simultaneously as well.
