like zakk said the bootleg ship has already sailed, its just a bad excuse if you ask me.zaphod wrote:Razoola doesn't want the roms ANYWHERE but on his computer or in boards with dead batteries. he doesn't want to be responsible for cps2 bootlegs, you see. SOmeone who would give you roms to fix your board that's not Razoola might give bootleggers roms to make bootlegs with you see.
that's why the big secrecy involving the roms.
As long as they are useed for their intended purpose, it is fair use. if everyone used them for their intended purpose (saving the board of a collector) this would cause capcom and the developers no harm whatsoever, because capcom neither sellb oards to collectors nor fixes them up for us. I would say it passes the purpose of use and deals no finnancial harm tests. and two tests passed is enough. THe peoelp usign them to make booltlegs, are breaking the law though.
The phoenix edition roms should honestly be reprogrammed for free play only. that would cement their legal status. arcade operators can still get their boards fixed by capcom.
the way i see it now is that razoola is holding the common gamers dead boards hostages with the roms because he knows its big buisness.
raz defenetly deserves the cred for breaking the encryption (and i think hes gotten it aswell, along with plenty of cash) but i mean cmon hes charging €30 a pop for burning a few roms here (not including shipping costs), i just dont see how that can be concidered legit while spreading the roms for free is not???
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

Well, due to some silliness on my part (I bent a pin and accidentally fried one of the replacement roms when putting them back in) this took awhile longer. But thanks to Razoola, my green Progear board is now fully working again. All Phoenix'ed and ready to rock.
I highly recommend Razoola's services, he was a huge help.

Ah yes, the brilliance that is the suicide-philosophy.
In an attempt to stop piracy/warez/roms/bootlegs yet another company (a) screws over it's legitimate customers and (b) fails anyway as the community gets together and breaks the encryption.
There are far better encryption schemes out there if people want to protect the information on their boards (look at Raiden II, or any of the new stuff using RSA). Harming your legitimate customers to spite bootleggers who'll beat your schemes anyway is short sighted at best.
But anyways... ranting here won't change things. So I'll shut up.

Changed the battery on my progear today. My original battery was labeled 97-06. Good feeling to have it done.
I used this technique because life will be simpler afterwards:
