I am planning to make a little arcade gaming setup with my CRT. However, before I RGB mod my TV and buy a Raspberry pi with scart hat, I want to make sure that it is properly serviced. Obviously, since I am not a professional, I will be skipping many of the procedures detailed in this TV's service manual: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/69752 ... =25#manual
Firstly, I would like to detail the current issues with my TV, and follow that up with my plan for fixing these issues. I came here to humbly ask for advice and assurance (or dissuading if needed) regarding my plan going forward.
Here are my problems:
1. First of all, my TV has some convergence issues. I have tried fixing them before but lost much of my motivation since I didn't even know what I wanted to use the TV for. However, I now have a strong motivation to improve the convergence.
2. Next, on some black screens, a red hue will appear in addition to raster lines, though this seems to go away once the TV warms up (just an observation which could be wrong).
3. Two different types of ghosting seem to appear. One happens when a bright object is moving across a dark background. example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ahzFaa ... qgXw7/view
The second seems to hover in front of objects as they move rather than trailing behind them. (very difficult to take a video of though I can try if needed)
Here is my plan:
1. Study the service manual, highlighting things that I can currently do with my knowledge and equipment. I plan to note the correct order of each of these adjustments so that I am not unknowingly working backward.
2. Apply the information I have found in these two sources:
How to Correctly Set Up Monitor Colours and Brightness: https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/How_to_C ... Brightness
How to Color and White balance your chassis to your tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HA ... ms&t=1016s
(It would be great if someone could verify that these are good sources of information.
3. With the help of anyone who would be willing to answer some questions, create a guide for myself in order to properly service my CRT to the best of my ability so that I can continue with my projects of modding it and finally using it.
Just a few questions:
1. Both the article and video that I linked talk about pots for the cutoffs, gain, brightness and contrast. However, my TV doesn't have these physical pots that I am aware of. In the service menu, I have found "R, G, and B Output Drive/Cutoff Controls" but that is it. Is Drive the same as Gain? I also found "Sub Brightness" in the service menu. Would this be the alternative to the brightness pot? What would contrast be?
2. I have heard people saying not to mess with B+ but the video I posted suggested it. What should I do?
3. In addition to these things, is there anything I am forgetting that could make this TV look better? I can figure out convergence on my own since there are many videos about it on YouTube.
I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!
