Living my best shmup life on the Xbox series S and X via dev mode/ retroarch.
But using the cheeseburger of a controller, aka Xbox pad….not my favorite.
I’ve that wireless controllers get locked out unless it’s official.
How about wired? Had anyone tried the retro bit sega Saturn pad, usb wired?
There’s got to be something out there.
Any retro style pads for Xbox Series dev mode?

Unless going into dev mode drops the controller restrictions, I don't think any generic USB pads like the RetroBit are going to work. If it does, you have a smorgasbord of classic options like the Buffalo and Sega SLS.
You might want to look into the Brook PS2 -> XO adapter. The Sony version opens up all the classic PS2 sticks and pads (including the SLS Saturn) to the PS5, and I'm guessing it's the same on the Xbox side.
