PVM arcing problem

Lol, I just can't catch a break with this PVM; it has only given me problems and more problems! I just fixed a vertical collapse issue with the help of a member from this forum. Now after using the monitor for about half an hour, a clicking noise started to come from the top of the monitor. Not only that, the image gets distorted every time it does a click sound.

I took the shell off, turned the lights off and turned the monitor back on. There was a spark coming from the top right of the screen, right where I think the degaussing coil is.

Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? There arent sparks coming from anywhere else.

General solutions for arcing:
1. Clean the anode cup and the area around the tube (you've probably already done that)
2. Keep using until it sorts itself out if 1 was done already, it should happen less frequently
3. If the issue persists after 2, you got a bad flyback or micro tears around the HV wire or anode cup
4. If changing the flyback doesnt fix the issue, the electron gun assembly itself is arcing and you'll need a CRT Rejuvenator/Restorer to clear internal shorts

If your PVM is one of those that has the red box between the flyback and the tube, then that component is defective, it's a very common issue.

Hi, thanks for your reply! The arcing is coming from between the top metal shield and the tube. See picture, right where I am pointing my finger at:

Is it possible to remove the metal shield without tearing the whole thing apart? I bpught some dielectric grease to apply a bit more to the anode cap

That's really strange, arcing has no business there because it's very very far from the flyback and anode cup, high voltage areas. It might not be high voltage arcing.

Thanks for the links! What could be the reason for a spark coming out of that area? My guess is that it is interfering with the demagnetizing system and this causes the image to be distorted. Is this an issue that can be repaired?

The deagaussing system is only active during the startup or when the button is manually pressed, so I dont think thats where the issue is.
How often do you see this spark? Is it random? Does it only happen when the monitor is cold or hot?

Is starts doing it pretty fast like 3 times per second when I turn it on and it is starting up. Then when it is on, it just does it about once or twice per second and everytime it happens the image gets all distorted. Pretty weird.

Lol I just found the problem. The anode cap wasn't even connected; it was completely lose! I just made sure that it was properly connected and now it is back to normal
