Sega Net City Candy Cabinet

Post by 99pence »

Is there a site with info on all these cabs. Apparently its only the jpn versions that have the multires monitors. There's also and upright version and a sit down version. You need a JAMMA adapter for it, I don't know if there's any other things to do to it to run JAMMA games.

Also there is a New Net City. What's new about it?

It would be interesting to find out about these cabinets.

The ony site I can think of that has info on NetCity Cabs is http://www.sega-naomi.com/
There are a few other dual res cabs availible. Ive got a Sega BlastCity & Konami Windy2, both are dual res. I think the Atomiswave/Egret3 cabs are dual res also.

Cheers.

This is a quite an interesting site for images.

I think most Candy cabs are dual res. Stuff like the Blast City, Net City, Egret 3 etc are triple res.

So all I can gather is cabs like the Konami Windy 2 and Net City are JVS and not JAMMA so they need a converter. I'd like to know whether the Egret 3 is JAMMA or JVS. Also I wonder what connecters the typeX has.

Probably best sticking to the Astro City and Egret 2 as they are JAMMA.

Dimensions and release date info for all Sega Japan cabs, from the creator Sega Mechatro.

http://www.sega-mechatro.com/products/d ... b_cab.html

About Net City: though it's the new JVS for power supply hook ups and others, the input plug that attaches to PCB is still original JAMMA. It's changed the other stuff mainly for ease of connection and 3.3v power. At least this is what's told to me by people with first hand knowledge.

Example of new JVS power supply (Sanwa part 'SWN-JVS') for Net City and others:

Here's a pic of the JVS to JAMMA board connector.

I don't know if thats all you need or if there's anything else you have to do to use JAMMA boards. I read something and they were on about doing something to the power supply.

Sanwa has released a similar JVS>>JAMMA converter. It's quite expensive at around $300. Of course Net City is not at all cheap these days either.

I'm thinking my source of info about Net City cab being 'JAMMA for game' must have had something professional adapter already installed. Maybe Sega themselves have had one to offer since it's release.

is jvs basically just vga/stereo rca/usb for the video/audio/controls? never knew anything about it before and couldnt find much looking for info about it now. would it be possible to hook up a computer to a jamma cab with just a jvs-jamma adapter (if the computer magically had hid drivers for the controls)? or just straight to a jvs cab too i guess.

looks like that tw-2n has a few other uses, specifically game switching for multiple games and signal splitting for versus city type setups from what i can tell. is the tw-2 right under it a jamma game switcher? and is the vc-kg (2nd from top) a/v converter (or any of the other vc-xx products there)?

It would be much cheaper to just use a j-pac in this situation.

Personally, this jvs to jamma thing looks like a ripoff to me. Its not hard to wire up your own vga plug to molex connector (same for the stereo plugs) and just use a regular jamma harness.

wouldn´t you need an upscan converter for games that have lores output? Taking the price of an X-RGB2 into account, this converter doesn´t look THAT expensive anymore, I think.

The JVS->Jamma adapter does no upscan conversion. Low-res games are displayed in 15Khz.
That's why it's not very useful on a Naomi Universal Cabinet which only accepts 31Khz input, because the only system that I know of that can output 31Khz on the Jamma connector is the Atomiswave.
The Net City on the other hand, does 15Khz too.

Another JVS>>JAMMA adapter at a more reasonable price ($125) is found from River Service (custom made). Forgot all about seeing this one before. You can check it out on their English home page: http://www.riverservice.co.jp/index_e.html

p.s. Though does anyone here actually own a JVS cabinet like the new Net City? It's future plan we can guess.

Actually, to hook up a PC to a JVS cabinet, what you want is a JVS-PAC

This little device converts the jvs IO to mame compatible keystrokes, or optionally USB HID (useful if you want to stick a ps3 in or use it with games that prefer usb pads/sticks.

It pretends to be three USB keyboards to get around the 6 key usb limit when in keyboard mode.

Egret 3 and AWSD's are fully Jamma with some JVS stuff as well. Tri-sync monitor.

Necrobump. There's a seller with these on YAJ for not much money. I've scanned the manual in here: http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/File:Sanwa_TW-2N.pdf - it's not a JVS>JAMMA but lets you do all sorts of combinations of switching between two boards - 2 JAMMA/2 JVS/1 JAMMA+1 JVS, and a versus setup. Without the manual translated I'm just guessing as to how the last bit is done.
