Spike out:Battle Street Beat em up For Xbox

Post by PsikyoPshumpPshooterP »

well you beat em up fans..u got your wish...here is a new beat em up from sega releasing this month for this xbox...theres 4 player co op online and and a 16 free for all man for himself on xbox live. heres a quick vid if you're interested..

http://www3.stream.co.jp/cgi-bin/common ... =mfile.asx

theres downloadable content...great price=$30..and i heard a rumor that its gonna be made in limited quantities.

Heres how the online gonna be like from Team Xbox
Let’s get one thing straight…Battle Street is NOT for fair weather gamers. If you deem yourself “hardcore” then get ready for a major challenge. The Arcade version of Battle Street uses absolutely no continues. Being that each stage (7 in total) is broken up into several areas, if your team bites the big one in the seventh area of an eight level stage, it’s back to the beginning. Each stage is also timed and shouldn’t be dismissed. While in a game if you happen to get KO’d, then you’ll be put into a spectator mode and only be able to re-enter the game at the end of an area or stage.

Yes, the art isn't as appealing as Streets of Rage was, but if the gameplay is there (online co-op, that's what old school folks want to see) then this could be something special for classic beat-em-up fans. Apparently it really allows for tons of customization of your online persona, so you really get to know who you're fighting alongside, and full voice chat could make this a real social experience...

Are you guys talking about SpikeOut? Europe will get it, no doubt, so you don't have to worry. It's the long awaited conversion of the Model 3 game. I played the arcade version ages ago and it's great, believe me. If the Xbox version is half as good, it will do fine and there won't be no reason to skip europe on the release list.

And it's Live enabled. Can you say "Sega Rules"?

I hope they change the name though...Spike Out sounds like an online VolleyBall game to me.

This is not a port or a remake of the arcade game. It is a 100% totally new game made for the Xbox. :D

Errr.... not per se. You can call it a sequel if you want, but I don't think it features too much over the original. Something tells me if you read enough you'll get the idea. Since it's got a subtitle prepended to the name, I'd classify it as a sequel though.

Volleyball game? Yeah, and maybe Castle Shikigami 2 is an RPG, Strikers is a game about soccer, and Image Fight is a fighter, huh?

No, it doesn't need to have its name changed. It's a legend in the late 90's arcade action game genre along with Dynamite Deka/DHA/DC and Chaos Heat.

Interesting...one copy is going for over $150, some are at $35 with no bids. Not much difference in the shipping either.

I've been excited as to how it would turn out since I first heard of it in 2003; I've never played the '97 original nor its sequels, either.

One of these days, I'm going to buy an Xbox, if only for the SNK and Sega releases, and this game.

There was only a 3,600 print run for this game and only EB Games got it, however a second print run is rumored to happen and be released again on April 15.

I have no pity for the schmucks paying $70+ for this game.

And R-Type's an illegal street racing game.

Slap Fight sounds like the name of something that should be dirty, but it's clean. That was stupid how SEGA gave the Xbox Spikeout such a limited print run. The game just came out!

I had it preordered. It's pretty decent, but I really wish the two player offline mode wasn't splitscreen. Doing it like Die Hard Arcade where the screen simply zooms out a little when players move away from eachother would have made it a lot more fun. Still, for the price it's a pretty fun, though shallow, beat-em-up.

From what I've played you seem to have two basic attacks. One is a punch and the other is a kick, but if you hold down kick it charges up a bar. The bar is marked with notches, each one denoting a different style of attack like stun, or uppercut. You can seemingly mix and match combinations of this charge bar and the basic punch button to come up new moves. Really, it looks and feels like an early Sega Dreamcast game.

just got my copies in the mail today.

all of my spikeout skills i had honed in the arcades are gone, but by god i'm still having a blast.

If there's one bad thing to be said, it's that it's a shame that we'll probably never see the original version on a home console (and the arcade version isn't too easy to find in the US anyway)

The game is bit deeper than just 2 attacks.
depressing both attack buttons at once will start a 1-2 hit sweeping combo.
Punch+Jump will execute a "homing attack"

mixing the sweep and homing attacks up a bit will allow you to juggle enemies.

Then there are of course the special attack, and SoR style Grapples.

It's a good game, but it's also not worth much more than its $30 price tag.
currently collecting a crapload of coasters, carts, controllers, and consoles
