Gradius V

Post by jpolz »

I picked this up a few days ago. I'm not a newbie SHUMPer or anything,
but damn if it isn't one of the most difficult games I've played in a long time.

I think my problem is a keep looking for my "bomb" button to clear the screen of all the bullets!

Never met you so Welcome man, I'm pretty new myself. :)

Yeah I've played many Shmups and this game was still difficult for me, but not in a cheap way, apparently it gets even harder after you beat it or something.

Definatly among my fav shooters.

i'm not a newbie in the strictest sense but that doesn't mean i am any good! just to get the weapon edit i did an unfocused run through the game on very easy and it took me 7 credits.

and yeah the second loop is a barrel of laughs! i can't what the other loops must play like (i hear the loops max out at ten).
I have no sig whatsoever.

Gradius V takes practice no matter how hardened you are. Would you expect anything less from Treasure?

I love shooters with high difficulty. It really increases the replay value. With Gradius V, you just don't feel like you've truly beaten the game until you've cleared normal mode either on one credit, or with checkpoints turned on. I have yet to do that myself..... I suck :(

Granted Gradius V is def hard but enjoyable. Gradius Galaxies on the other hand will kick your azz! Picked up a copy the other day and spent 1/2 the day on it. Man o man....its def old school.

It is indeed a difficult game. I'm spending a lot of time on it these days, I think I've made it to stage 3 on my first credit - maybe 500,000 or so points. After that it's pretty hard - especially if you lose your options.

Great game though, a really great game.

GREAT game. Almost nothing to complain about, which is saying a lot coming from me.

I, for one, don't think it's as hard as everyone makes it out to be. I find all the R-Type games, Ikaruga, and all the other gradius games to be a lot harder. Gradius V is also pretty fair, but it sucks how certain spots are just impossible if you die and lose your options. (The 2nd half of Stage 6 comes to mind) :x

Don't ever die on the left side of the screen and you should be alright :) Better yet, don't ever die at all. This game is tough, but I find it really easy to memorize and overall pretty fair, much more so than previous Gradius games. I play on normal and have gotten to last stage 6 boss on one credit...stage 7 wipes me out, and I still have yet to beat this game.

yup. You really just have to get through it all without dying.

My jaw literally dropped a couple times playing that game. Only a couple others have done that, so it's saying a lot.
