As the title says, I am having problems with my NeoGeo CD toploader.
This is a PAL device where I already installed a 60Hz mod and language switch years ago.
The console has worked this way for 20 years without any problems, until I started it up again a few weeks ago.
After switching on the console shows only a white picture, but sometimes you can see a faint blue haze of the actual game graphics. It doesn't matter if I connect the console via composite video, S-Video or RGB cable to the TV, both my CRT and OLED TV (the latter via RetroTink 5x) show the same problem. The sound, on the other hand, works fine.
I ordered a recap kit for my NeoGeo toploader from Console5 and soldered it in. At this point I can say that a recap of this console is absolute hell. Distributed over various boards, countless electrical capacitors must be unsoldered. In addition, the contact pads tend to break or tear off when you remove the capacitors, even if you have previously sucked off the solder as well as possible and you still help a little with the soldering iron. Including checking if all contacts and traces are still intact, this procedure took over 5 hours!
But unfortunately, the problem was not solved, still have a white image with the sometimes faintly visible blue haze of the game graphics.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be and what else I can do?
