Anyone getting Yoshi's TnG today for DS?
Anyone getting Yoshi's TnG today for DS?
I know I am. At first I was a little wary it might be little more than one big expanded minigame since it doesn't have any real "beggining, middle, end" structure (not that I was expecting such). But after reading the very good reviews it got from Craig at IGN and Shane B at EGM (two of the best game reviewers out there these days IMHO) I'm sold. Nice to see Nintendo making games that have addicitive old school play mechanics. Now if only they would put some sort of enemy scoring method into the next 3D Mario game...

I want to get it, too. But, I am currently playing Pac Pix and really cannot imagine stopping any time soon as the game is simply too addicting for anybpdy's good..
I really want to get DK Jungle Beat today, too. Nintendo is really unique lately and DK looks and, from what I have read, is really fun and intuitive.

Just got done playing it. Amazingly addicitve, this will make a great game at the office. Score attack mode is my fave so far. The game gets intense fast in marathon. Using the stylus for getting enemy kill combos and coins is a blast. Here are my scores for both modes:
Score Attack:
156
Marathon:
1766
Kinda wish there were some sort of bosses to fight though, now that'd be interesting....

Hmmmm. 1up.com's Jeremy Parish and gamespot seemed to expect a full blown sequel to Yoshi's Island. If you read there reviews make sure to balance it out by reading the IGN review by Craig Davis and the review in the latest EGM. If you don't like playing for score then just say so.
I'll say this, the game's scoring and challenge sure beat sniffing for melons in Yoshi's Story any day.

Here's my initial impressions:
I've played Score Attack(311), Marathon(2465), and Vs. Mode.
So far, I think its a fun little game but definitely not the killer app that would push DSs. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, I just wish there was more "meat" to the game. Like, how about making the Score Attack LEVEL random? It gets kinda old kinda fast. Marathon is a breath of fresh air, but I only played it two or three times so I can't make too many comments on it.
Vs. Mode kind of let me down. Yes, my friend and I had fun, but I don't see any point in leaving vs. mode completely devoid of any of the real "enemies" (shy guys, bats, etc.). OK, I can chain green cacti... whoopy...
It was still fun though, I just want at least half in vs. as was in single player. Vs. was just very "dry" to me.
Other than that, the game is addictive and is fun, and will definitely kick your ass. Props to Nintendo, now lets make a full-fledged game please.

Yeah, I still like it a lot but am eating a bit of crow now. As I said before, it could use boss battles. Something to give it more of an objective to reach besides the score at least. That said though, I am still thoroughly enjoying it as a scoring game and just got 3,000 finally on marathon. Challenge is interesting so far, invincible Mario bonanza when you float down.

You just described a nice portion of the current DS library.

I love little time-wasters as much as the next guy, but I want a full fledged game dammit!

After 24 hours and a lot more thought, I think Tezuka needs to be taken off future Yoshi/2D games (that said, I still am enjoying the game as a wonderful scoring challenge). His direction/producing duties under Miyamoto on Yoshi's Island were awesome. But ever since the reigns were fully handed over to him on Yoshi's Story, he has over simplified the series more and more and this just feels like he isn't putting much effort into it. Or his heart isn't in it anymore.
I mean, how long could this game have taken to make? It's still a lot of fun but couldn't they have easily beefed the game up with more content like bosses at least as I said before. What other games for GB/DS or GC has Tezuka worked on? Anyone know? Just curious.

I agree totally. Mind you, the more I play YTnG to more I'm pleasantly surprised by its hidden depth (i.e. chaining things you hit with one egg). But regardless, its still yet another mini-game time waster... just like Wario Ware... Feel the Magic... Mr. Driller... etc.
I want a full fledged game. Oh well. *leaves to go get "Retro Atari Classics and pre-order Meteos and Polarium... Jesus... *

Na, I'm not dissing the "mini-game time wasters" genre, I'm just saying I want more full games on the DS. I love Wario Ware, Feel the Magic, and Yoshi's Touch N Go, and I'm sure I'll love Meteos, Polarium, Pac Pix, and all that goodness, I just want something with a bit more meat on the console. Not just something I'll sit down and dick around with for a few hours (granted, thats the real purpose of handhelds, and thus the DS is the ultimate).
With that said, I just played Challenge Mode for two hours. Damn fun stuff. I think tomorrow I'll focus a bit more on Marathon Mode.
Oh yeah, the Lakitus in the walls get me too. Them and those damn monkeys. Gah.
