dave, obviously, I hope the game get released too....I pre-ordered and paid for it as well :D

but that fact of the matter is, I go there like really regularly....the mods don't answer questions at all... they go there maybe once every 2 months and say something like "as soon as we know, we would announce something".....

i just hope, being a game company, you should at least let the gamers know some info along the way of the 3 years wait.

Well, Playlogic has a US office, with phone #; which you can find here:

www.playlogicgames.com/contact

People NEED to start calling up and complaining, (at both offices, really) and that's exactly what I intend to do tomorrow. I'm not going to chew anyone up, or swear, but they need to know just how badly some of us want this game, and how long we've been waiting.

Well, at least they actually found a willing publisher in both US and EU regions for the game.

It would be nice though, if the publisher could perhaps send a copy to Microsoft ahead of time, so they could ensure it made its way onto the 360 backward compatibility list in time for launch...

I actually did an interview in May with one of the managers of an EBX store near my house, and he claimed that Xyanide was coming out on XBLA first-and, at the rate things are going, that may end up being the case. And as far as publishing the game in Europe goes, I don't think that was ever too much of a problem-the box art that Playlogic has up on their website is PAL.

EDIT: I sent Southpeak an email, and got this response today:

"David,
Thank you for contacting SouthPeak Interactive and your interest in our games.

Xyanide for Xbox is scheduled to be distributed by SouthPeak Interactive on July 18th. Please continue to check our website for updates on products.

http://www.southpeakgames.com/index.html

Sincerely,
MK OFerrall
SouthPeak Interactive Customer Service"

And, Muldini, the mod on Playlogic's Forums sent me this PM:

"Hello dave4shmups,

this is what I was trying to explain in my post, maybe I have not been to succesful at that:

first, Southpeak has never been the publisher. Evolved is the publisher, and Evolved uses a sales company which also happens to be affiliated with Southpeak (I personally don't know the exact relation - it is not my work field - but I think both Southpeak and that sales company somehow belong to the same mother company).
So, as we have made a deal with Evolved, they are now selling the game to US retailers, and based on their orders, Evolved will set the release date. We as Playlogic can not decide on a release date - I suppose you agree that an official release date doesn't make sense before the retailers have ordered any games for their shops.

Xyanide is an Xbox game, and retailers hesitate to stock Xbox titles at present. For example, a lot of shops have taken Xbox out of their portfolio. This is also the reson why negotiations with US distributors have come along pretty slow - no matter how much we'd like to put the game in the shops, we first need someone who buys the game from us, if you know what I mean.

So, this is the situation. I have been asking my colleagues - who are in touch with Evolved - every day about news on the release date, and I will continue to do so until they have an answer. as soon as I have this date, I will post it here. Before that moment, it is just not possible for me to confirm _any_ date.

In essence, the only definite info is: The game will come out in the US, and in the UK, via Evolved.

Hope this clears it up.

Have a great weekend
Muldini"

*shrugs* At least it has a release date: 7/25/06 (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/data/917912.html), unlike Raiden III. Other sites list the same date.

Check out these new videos from IGN!:

Bad News...sort of...
My local Gamestop has the game marked on their system for August 15. Another delay? Oh well, as long as it eventually comes out.

Believe me, I'm not one bit suprised with another delay. I saw videos of this game on G4 last summer and thought the game was going to come out way long ago. Yes, on the bright side, there is a tentative release date always so the game is probably close to done. Maybe there getting more bugs out of it or marketing is trying to find the perfect day the game will get the attention from consumers?

I'm pretty sure the game is finished, but, according to the mod on Playlogic's forums, they can't post a definate release date until game stores are willing to order this game, which is difficult considering that the XBOX is at or near the end of it's lifespan.

uh, what's with this game again, still doesnt look like a shmup to me, but i had a hard time figuring out what was happening in the screenshots.

i predict a major dissapointment when it's released, but that's just me.

I agree, it seems XBOX only games are vanishing quickly. Looks like Microsoft really wants people to buy the new XBOX360 and dump the old one. PS2 on the other hand should have a good lifespan beyond when its offspring the PS3 is released.

"And that, boys and girls, was the dumbest game move of 2006. Also, to my younger self, don't go betting at the dog races the week before christmas. You'll miss an auction for RSG for 30 dollars. Also, dump that loser Kelly and get it on with Lori. Trust me, she'll 'power up' quite nicely. Heh heh, heh *wheeze* COUGH COUGH GASP!"

No arguments there; Playlogic definately should've gotten the game ready for release earlier in the XBOX's lifespan.

But to me, the biggest dissapointment with the system was still the cancellation of Raiden Fighters Evolution. Heck, if that had been released, I'd own a JP XBOX.

This game looks a lot like a prettier version of games like Nova Storm (Scavenger 7) and Microcosm that Psygnosis put out years ago. If you've played the games, then you know what I'm talking about. If not, imagine sprites pasted on top of what's basically a movie. Sort of a half breed between a shmup and an FMV game. M.A.C.H. 3 is another example.

It looks like a shmup to me; the perspective is different, but that doesn't meant that it doesn't meet the qualifications of being a shmup. And it certainly looks a helluva lot more entertaining then R-Type Final.

OT, is Microcosm any good? It was released on so many different platforms in the early '90s that it makes me curious.

No, Dave. Stay away from it. One of Psygnosis programmers described it like this (From Next Generation back when it was cool): "You ever seen one of those documentaries where they cram a tube up someone's butt and show you the inside? Well, the game was just like that, and playing it was a similar experience."

Nanotek Warrior and N20 are better executed games based on the same idea.

Playlogic should just slap a XBOX360 packaging around it then it will sell much better. Seriously though, I hope this week is the one.

Nice to see this Xbox shmup is finally shipping today. I'll probably pick up a copy sometime next week, since I'm in the mood for some more Mutant Storm-esque shooting, and Xyanide's 'space witch materializing nightmares' setting sounds good to me.

This is probably one of the highest profile western-developed shmup releases for a while (since Nanostray). If anyone else gets this post your impressions.

Sadly they are ground shipping it out to the stores, so it won't be available at some Gamestop/EB locations until Friday. It's just as well, for I won't get a real chance to sit down with it until Saturday.

That is a very old demo of the stripped down N-Gage version, that runs inside a cellphone emulator on your PC. That demo has been available for close to 2 years - we discussed it on the old forums.

It's quite a shame, IMO, that the GBA port was cancelled. That looked excellent. It will be interesting, though, to see how different the PSP port will be with only one analog stick.

EBgames.com has also updated to reflect an unspecified delay. Until a few hours ago their site was still showing as coming soon with a predicted date of 08/15, now it's simply not in stock, with no set date listed.
