NES/Famicom: Star Soldier or Twin Bee or Xevious?

Post by DatPhosphorGlow »

Looking for an NES/Famicom SHMUP that's on the GBA "Classic NES Series/Famicom Mini Series", these are the only options:

-Star Solider
-TwinBee
-Xevious

If you had to pick one, and why?

If any of these are terrible, why?

Appreciate any input.

I've yet to play a Twin Bee game I haven't thought was somewhere between mediocre or outright terrible. I hate the bell system for powering up. It makes it really awkward to collect the powerups you want and especially awkward to recover after a death.

I'd go for Star Soldier.

I have Xevious, its alright but its not varied enough. Twinbee is ok as well, but there are much better renditions of it than the Famicom version.

Star Soldier absolutely

Not a massive fan of either game, but Star Soldier at least is fun to play.

I did play a little bit of Xevious in the past and some TwinBee recently for a few minutes.

Have to agree from what I remember that Xevious is at the bottom of those two, just wasn't sure if there was something I was missing with Xevious because I never gave it a chance such a long time ago.

Looks like it's between Star Soldier and TwinBee. And looks like Star Soldier is winning.

Does one have more replay-ability than the other?

Are you buying the cartridge? Or emulating?

Cartridge, I like cartridges.

When I have a flash cart I don't commit and just end up power cycling mindlessly. Worse so with emulation. Doesn't work for me.

Out of those three I would pick Star Soldier, but I would pick Star Force over Star Soldier and Gradius over Twinbee.

There's the wacky FC/NES stg called Gun-Nac (that was developed by Compile and published by Ascii for the USA release) worth getting as well.

Hidden stage select on Gun-Nac: By selecting Bgm #7 on sound test, you can select the starting stage by selecting stage option & pressing up or down on the D-pad to raise or lower the starting stage. Press the Start button to play the desired chosen stage. How cool is that?
