Great arcade titles still unavailable elsewhere
There's been so many re-releases recently what acclaimed titles have yet to be announced?
I can't think of that many

Re: Great arcade titles still unavailable elsewhere
Guess it depends on what you deem "great."
I'd love to see the licensed shooter U.N. Squadron/Area 88 on modern hardware. Both the arcade original and the SNES remake.
Would also be glad to see R-TYPE Leo. Maybe even unmodified versions of R-TYPE 1 & 2 that aren't stuck on the Evercade. Leo was only ever released as a ROM in an emulator package years ago, which I have, but that's not great.
Some others I'm thinking of are Salamander 2 (which I think was on the PSP in Japan only), and Solar Assault. Solar Assault was flawed, but whenever I went that that one Wal-Mart I knew that had it back in the day I played it.
The last console most of Sega's shooters were on was the 3DS which is now defunct. Galaxy Force II, Thunder Blade, Afterburner, and Fantasy Zone.

Viper Phase 1 and Cyvern are the two that bother me the most. My dream release of Viper Phase 1 would be a collection with old version / new version / 2-loop version. I wonder if anyone knows who owns Kaneko stuff these days for Cyvern.
Irem's been decent about getting their games out lately, so I'm still hopeful Gallop and Air Duel will get a nice releases someday.
Air Gallet would blow my socks off.
I suppose someone has to mention Ibara Black Label.
If someone wants to put in the research, check out the arcade chronology topic and then search for home releases: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11597

I would also love to see Viper Phase 1. That leads me to want a proper release of the Raiden Fighters series. The Steam version is hot garbage.

Viewpoint seems doomed forever as it's obviously never been a matter of technology.
And it's quite a shame Labyrinth Runner gets ignored once and again.

Come on. I own the PCB and I've never been high enough to claim it's a great game other than with respect to the always amazing Irem spritework. It's not bad, it's just not great.SuperDeadite wrote:Fire Barrel

Re: Great arcade titles still unavailable elsewhere
Lol, I didn't say it was anything super amazing, but it is a solid, fun shooter with no home port. Love the graphics and music. Sure it's quite easy (and broken with autofire), but its just good fun. I find it quite relaxing to blast through. I got my PCB many years ago (before the price explosion), and find it in my cab quite often. Its an honest game with nothing to prove. Fun games deserve ports imo.Bar81 wrote:Come on. I own the PCB and I've never been high enough to claim it's a great game other than with respect to the always amazing Irem spritework. not to be a dick, mate, but that "Sent from some device nobody gives a shit about" signature is pretty annoying... if I ask politely, will you consider disabling it?dmk1198 wrote:There's been so many re-releases recently what acclaimed titles have yet to be announced?

R-Type Leo, technically speaking.
Also, Tobe! Polystars. For some strange reason, Mamedevs won't finish emulating it.

That's the usual outcome with Mame, I'd say. I was going to blame their anti-Patreon policies, but then I recalled Mister being way too similar, at least for anything arcade not signed by Jotego.
The Polystars case though, being M2 and all, must be a tough nut to crack, anyway.

And nobody better claim the Megadrive port's an acceptable substitute.
Mushihimesama Futari still hasn't been ported to anything other than XB360 which is surprising given the first game as well as like 3 other CAVE titles are on Steam. Seems a shame PC users get to play the first one but not the second.

Lotta Namco gems, like the Outfoxies and Burning Force!
Re: Great arcade titles still unavailable elsewhere
My pick has gotta be Twin Eagle II The Rescue Mission
Only ever saw this at my local arcade, but they had it there for years through the mid 90's. It became one of my go to games between rounds of Daytona (along with Assault and Metal Slug X)
I guess people don't care for Street Fighter II type control moves in shoot'em ups. I think it's a rad game and would love too see it pop up through Arcade Archives.

Or just scoop up an SSV arcade motherboard + SSV cart of Twin Eagle II: The Rescue Mission and you're good to go.Koa Zo wrote:My pick has gotta be Twin Eagle II The Rescue Mission

It'd be cool to play Namco's arcade racing series of Wangun Midnight: Maximum Tune (circa 2002) -- racing against the "Blue Devil" cpu opponent for a solid 22 minutes (is regarded as pure white knuckle arcade racing at it's finest) on modern-day gaming consoles. Even Sega's classic arcade racer Scud Racer would be ace on the Switch/Xbox Series X/PS5.
Seibu Kaihatsu's Viper Phase 1 New Version (aka VP1 U.S.A. stateside was officially by Seibu licensee Fabtek themselves) is one those arcade stg titles that hasn't seen a proper console port period. I had to break down & get the Seibu SP1 cartridge of VP1 U.S.A. + a proper SP1 motherboard just play it for ol' times sake. Well worth the hard-earned $$$ that it fetches nowadays on the secondary collector's arcade pcb market.
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

I'm not super familiar with the game but it would be cool to see Tobe! Polystars get a home version some day.

How so? I politely asked you to make a tiny change in your device's settings, which would probably take you five seconds, and gave you a reason for my request. Having to read that useless signature (or at least the first part of it, since quickly reading posts on a messageboard is an automatic process) all the time is annoying for many people, not just for me. But by all means, if you can't be arsed to take five entire seconds of your precious time...dmk1198 wrote:But...Ur being a dickChurchOfSolipsism wrote:not to be a dick, mate, but that "Sent from some device nobody gives a shit about" signature is pretty annoying... if I ask politely, will you consider disabling it?dmk1198 wrote:There's been so many re-releases recently what acclaimed titles have yet to be announced?
