Getting an Egret II into an upstairs spare bedroom
Getting an Egret II into an upstairs spare bedroom
Has anyone done this? The inside frame width (minus door) is approx 71cm, but the cabinet spec says it's 75cm. To make matters slightly worse, the room is at the end of an upstairs corridor, but it does have another door way directly opposite. To what extent would the cab need to be dissembled to get it through the door? Simple removal of the control panel, or something more substantial?

In terms of size I’d say just removing the CP would be enough. I had to bring my AWSD through narrow stairs (72cm width IIRC) and that’s all I needed to remove.
However in my case the size wasn’t the real issue, but the weight, since the steps of those stairs are quite high and little depth, and we had to bring it down sideways. Back then I was so scared of CRTs that I didn’t want to remove it for the operation, and it was a big mistake, as I put my own integrity and my brother in law’s at risk (no joke, I would never try this again without stripping it further)
So yeah, depending on how “comfortable” those stairs are, I would also recommend removing the monitor.

Don't risk it. Sell it to me for a nice profit and buy yourself a SuperGun and a nice OLED TV. Have cash left over for the delivery guys to bring the TV up to your room.bcass wrote:Has anyone done this? The inside frame width (minus door) is approx 71cm, but the cabinet spec says it's 75cm. I had to completely disassemble my New Astro City to get it up the roughly half-meter wide stairs that lead to my apartment. It fucking sucked, especially since the staircase makes 2 90 degree turns and then there is the gas meter outside my door in the hallway, giving me somewhere around 1 foot of room, so I had to completely lift everything over the gas meter.
The best advice I can give you is GET ASSISTANCE. DO NOT DO THIS ALONE! I did it alone and it was one of the most miserable things I've done in my entire life, including USMC boot camp, which was honestly probably easier than this.
I had to carry every single component up individually all by myself. That monitor is fucking heavy when you are a skinny guy who hasn't done any exercise ever since leaving the military a decade earlier, so please do attempt to not die.

Yeah, I was definitely not thinking of doing this on my own. The cab with monitor is >100Kg. The top of my stairs is also a nightmare, also with a 90 degree turn, but with a balcony barrier getting in the way at the top of the stairs, then another 90 degree turn to get into the upstairs hallway. A couple of years ago I had a large prebuilt wardrobe delivered, which is admittedly a lot taller than a cab, and that had to be lifted over the balcony at the top of the stairs to get in into the hallway.

A heavy duty hand truck with straps could be your best friend on something like this. Recently had to move a large washer and dryer solo including up and down steps and was able to handle it no problem. The trick is to get one big enough for the job and take your time with pads straps etc to get it secure. Home depot, uhaul or whatever local equivalent will rent them. Work smarter not harder as they say.

I had to take a Windy apart to get it upstairs, it’s pretty simple and gave me the opportunity to give it a deep clean, I agree the monitor is a heavy bastard and hate moving it about.
Also a Noir I had to strip to get in my shed, Wow that thing is heavy!

Yep, I had to take the Egret II control panel off -- the initial torque used to install the washing nuts/bolts that hold the CP in place is quite high/insane (when manufactured at the Taito arcade cabinet factory) -- take it nice & slow to loosen them up with an adjustable locking socket wrench. It was a two-person affair taking the Egret II cab up the stairs with a heavy-duty hand truck (with a blanket used as padding as to not mar the cab itself). The 29" Nanao CRT monitor was left in place inside the cab as not to mess with it/damage it. Had to take my bedroom door off just be able squeeze/fit the cab through the door frame (it barely fit through -- quite a really tight squeeze indeed). Upon reinstalling the CP back in place, I made sure not overtighten the washing nuts/bolts as not strip them out (and much easier to loosen the washing nuts the next time around the CP needs to be removed if it needed be).
