Market for mistake/misprinted games

Post by postman »

Does anybody know if there is a market for misprinted games? I ran across a ps2 game where the label was one game, but the actual disc was pressed with something entirely different. It didn't look like a bootleg at all, and I was just curious if something like this was of any value (obviously the game in question isn't something like Radiant Silvergun).

I also have had sealed PS2 game cases with no discs in them.......a customer in the store where I work brought it back, claiming no disc was included, I thought "yeah right....", so I opened a duplicate sealed game and there actually was no disc........these appeared to be factory sealed and not a quick reseal job.
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.

Would be nice, I know of one big oops done in game printing, the Strider pack for PSX, Capcom managed to accidently label the games wrong, so the disc that says Strider 2 is really Strider 1, and vice versa.

Tell that to coin collectors... mis-minted coins are worth $$$$$

Not saying that misprinted games are as well, but it's up to you to find someone who DOESN'T have more sense, and play up the desirability to own such a rare and valuable item in perfect collector's condition, for a don't-miss-this price of just USD$400!

I really wouldn't be surprised if some sucker actually thought sealed empty boxes were valuable somehow and paid real money for a game with no disc inside.

Explaining it to someone as to why you bought it is another matter, however:

"Check it out, I just bought this game...SEALED! It comes with no disc! How rare is that, right? It's worth tons of cash!"

"Uhh, if it's sealed, how do you know it's empty inside, dude?"

"Ummm..."

"You know, I just bought that game, with the disc, for $5 as well"

"Well..." ;_;

Well, you can tell by shaking the box and listening for the disc hitting the edge of the holder. And I've actually come across a factory sealed game that didn't include the disc. I bought Sega Classics Collection from Best Buy one time and was shocked to see that the disc wasn't there. Thankfully, the Best Buy rep let me exchange it for another copy that did have a disc inside.

And I've always thought it odd that nobody seems to be able to produce factory seals exactly like the official PS2 ones. The fake ones are either thicker or feel like seran wrap.

Anyway, nobody nowadays has cared for misprints and other weird stuff. Back in the day, when DBGT went for big bucks, the misprinted version of the manual with a greened out character went for the exact same price. And nowadays, both original versions go for next to nothing. Maybe in another hundred years...

Fucking Wal-Mart customer Gradius 3 & 4 swipe trick @ me

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I remember one time I had bought a brand new sealed Atari Lynx game of Qix for a mere $14.99 from Babbage's and had gotten home to open the box and the Lynx cart of Qix wasn't there but Lynx Roadblasters and even included a Lynx Roadblasters manual as well -- this was back in the day when a Lynx game of Roadblasters retailed at $39.99 MSRP. So I got a $40 Lynx game for a mere $15. What a cool unexpected video game deal. ^_~

-----------------------------

There was another time when I went down to my local Wal-Mart and they had some copies of Gradius 3 & 4 for PS2. I asked the Wal-Mart associcate to get me a copy of it and she obliged. When I got home, it turned out that the Gradius game was missing and in it's place a generic country music CD + shredded paper in place of the instruction manual. I had to figure just what the fuck happened here.

Here's the low down of what events transpired before I ending getting shafted by a Wal-mart customer returning this Gradius 3 & 4 PS2 game & getting his money back:

This loser decides to keep the Gradius 3 & 4 game + the instruction manual and replace both items with said generic country music CD & shredded paper. The factory shrink wrapper was still intact but the bottom was replaced with some shipping tape instead + PS2 game label with the hologram was still intact as well. Wal-Mart's return policy is that if the game is in brand new condition & factory sealed, then a refund will be issued for it. However, if the game that has been opened and returned, then only be exchanged for the same game title only and no refund issued whatsoever.

So the next day, I went back to Wal-Mart and told them what the situation was at the Customer Returns department...the lady at the front counter said that she knew who the guy was since he had paid for the Gradius 3 & 4 PS2 game with a personal check. So I ended up getting a brand new copy of Gradius 3 & 4 and opened up at the Customer Return to make sure that it did indeed have it in the first place. What a fucking con job on me...so now, it's buyer beware -- be sure to check the bottom of your new PS2 game purchase, if it's been replaced with some shipping tape, then do not buy it since it wiil be you who gets shafted and have to return to get the correct game a 2nd time. :x

I have one of those! I throw it in so little I've never successfully put in the Strider 2 disc on my first try.
