TSK!!!
1) APIDYA!!!!111!1
I mean... Chris Huelsbeck in his finest hour! Those of you who didn't play it should really look it up and you'll see. Before the awesome graphics, before the tricky strategy, before its originality... the soundtrack struck me almost fatally. The musically bombastic meadows level, the thrilling and haunting percussions in the bass boss of the swamp level... the techno eighties trash in the high tech levels... and the superlative end credits soundtrack (that made it to a music CD too)... it's just too wo00t!
2) Agony (a piano solo for the title screen? I mean -
)
3) Ikaruga (I admit it's wonderful - I wish I had the soundtrack)
4) Mushihimesama (I fairly liked it until I started to love it once reached the last stage - expecially the horned beetle before the last boss. It's a great soundtrack. Too bad that the last boss has a very washed-up chorus BGM)
5) Macross - Ai Oboeteimasuka on Sega Saturn. (The very 80's trumpety movie BGM in all its glory.)
I wrote 5 because it's been asked 5, but there are many, many others around worth a mention.

Alas, Ikaruga is going...
Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Not in any particular order, here are a few of my favorites.
Ketsui & Dodonpachi Dai-ou-jou
Border Down
Ibara (Guardian Angel rocks)
Chaos Field
Zed Blade (Manabu Namiki again)
Metal Black (how could I have forgotten this one? Well, now here it is.)
Thunder Force IV (Stage 8's BGM seems to pay tribute to a Judas Priest song in which I've heard a similar riff.)
Last Resort (the city BGM "Jack to the Metro" kicks - the soundtrack seems like it's from the same composers who did the great KOF'94 BGM.)
EDIT: Now I'm counting Ketsui and DOJ as one, since they both are one on CD. More favorites added.

This is the type of thread to keep us in lineTwiddle wrote:radirgy
battle garegga

metal black
raiden fighters (all of them)
This is what it takes for us to make neat little lists?
I kiiiiiid I kiiiiid
So everybody else hates Batrider now?
*confused*
And Twiddle as far as your list goes, I trust you now, I guess I have to check Metal Black again.
This thread was written under the influence of
Batrider music (played backwards, make me do all kinds of strange things
What's with "honoroble mentions"? Is that the thing to do nowadays?
I kiiiid, I kiiiid
Forgot to thank click-stick dot com. That was a beautifully great site, where I got the Batrider tunes from. Thanks buddy.
Honorouble mention goes to click-stick.com
There, I jumped on the bandwagon

Yeah, I'm thinking there was a Top 3 thread some time ago. So the deja vu is natural.
Well, here we go again:
1. Dangun Feveron
2. Dangun Feveron
3. Dangun Feveron
4. Dangun Feveron
5. Dangun Feveron
Could someone tell me if the composers of Dangun made any other OSTs? That was such an original idea at the time, just blows a lot of standard shmup fare out of the water.
I remember getting the Batrider OST off of click-stick's site as well. Great stuff. Really can't go wrong with any Raizing OST. Especially Souky!

Re: soundtracks
Me too. Have you ever tried using M1 to record a soundtrack and then convert to mp3? Not as good as a real OST but it can produce some good results, like the Batrider soundtrack that was on click-stick.com which i believe was done that way.DEL wrote: 3. Truxton - looking for OST, no luck so far.

Truxton
mulletgeezer - I have found one way to record the Truxton soundtrack. I pause the PCengine Hucard at points during the game and simply record the tracks using my Hifi separate system. The useful thing is that the tracks still play from the Hucard whilst the game is paused.

What a rigmarole.
Tatsujin on the PC-Engine has a sound test. Play a game to 7100 points, then reset the system (Run + Select). At the title screen press and hold Select, then press Run.
Or you could download the HES ripped music (here) and play them/record them in WinAmp. The same goes for the GYM tunes from Truxton on the Genesis.
