Your top 5 SHMUP soundtracks?

Post by jpolz »

Just curious which soundtracks/music you enjoy the most. No real criteria other than what gets your toes tapping or humming along. I tend to favor the more epic soundtracks, so my top 5 would be:

1. Radiant Silvergun (Arranged Version)
2. Gradius V
3. Psyvariar 2
4. Blazing Lazers
5. DoDonPachi

1.Ikaruga - Love the variations of the main theme

2.ESPgaluda - Cheesey, but pumping dance soundtrack. Really gets you in the mood for blowing shit up.

3.Radiant Silvergun - Everyone raves about Stage 5, but the Stage 2 theme does it for me.

4.Thunderforce IV - Possibly the most rocking chip tune soundtrack ever.

5.Super R-Type - Dunno why, but I like this one. Shame the game sucks really.

No order:
Rayforce
Ikaruga
Blazing Star
Gradius V

But Battle Garegga takes first place, no doubt about that. I went jogging the other day listening to some Garegga arranged tunes; first level’s music arranged is godly.

Top 5? Probably...

Raiden DX
Thunder Force V
ESPGaluda
Psyvariar 2
Soldier Blade

Of course, the rest of the series for each of those games usually have exceptional tunes as well.

The last handful of DC shmups have also had some truly excellent stuff.

Tough one!

Axelay

Darius (COSMIC AIR WAY!)
DoDonPachi
Gradius Gaiden

Predictable choices, but they do inarguably have amazing soundtracks. :D

Of course, I'll change my mind in five minutes.

I can't limit it to 5.

In no particular order:
Soukyugurentai, Super Darius II (PCE), Nexzr, Border Down, Zanac Neo, Sylphia, Recca (very impressive for Famicom), Gradius V...

Those are just the first to come to mind. There are many more shooters with great music.

1. Thunderforce IV - Best Genesis music, hands down.
2. Einhander - Best techno soundtrack in a game
3. Android Assault - Awesome guitar-based rock.
4. Gradius V - Moody ambient music
5. Viewpoint - Excellent house/club music that makes the slightly plodding stages of the game go more smoothly due to the upbeat tunes

G. Darius

others that came so close:

Here's my top 5 all time shmup soundtracks...

1.) Gate of Thunder
2.) Thunderforce III
3.) Lords of Thunder (PC-Engine CD)
4.) DoDonPachi
5.) Viewpoint

Honorable mentions must go to: Thunderforce IV, Thunderforce V, Axelay, Gaiares, Hyper Duel, and MUSHA.

BTW, are we throwing in tube shooters? If so, Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar had truly awesome tunes.

I don't have a top 5 right now, but curiously, I am starting to like the Mushihime-sama soundtrack. Stage 4 I always felt was excellent, but I used to think the rest of the tracks were rubbish.

Now I've been playing 1-2 hours every day for a couple of weeks, and I just love all the tracks. Even the boss music!

That's brainwashing for you.
