Haha, no I don't have that one either! :D Mainly because I only have a Core Grafx, but also because there's not a whole lot of PC Engine games around these parts. I pretty much have the ones I bought with the system plus a few more.

Heh, it's all good. I do have a Duo and I don't have Super Star Soldier or Star Parodier yet.

EDIT: Ok, just won Parodier in an auction. 3 down, 1 to go.

Sat down and hammered away at this one the last two evenings. Man, those last two stages took a lot of memo to finally get down with all those bosses & gimmicks. I eventually managed to take down the Operation 6 boss without dying, but I still never felt like I quite had it down (took a hit or two). The phase vs the two 'arms' with those homing L-formation lasers was the worst, you have almost no room to maneuver and there's so much crap being thrown at you. It was mostly down to anticipation and reflex. One thing I did figure out that Chinopolis didn't seem to in that video I linked earlier is that it's the pinkish spheres it fires that chase you down that teleport you to the 'penalty zone,' if you can focus on dodging those you can stay in the fight.

Did finally get the clear...had to continue at the end though, so no 1CC yet. Last boss was kind of a pushover TBH, I only really had to play it straight up for the first 2-2.5 patterns, and then bomb spam. But you know a game is damn good when you beat it after hours of going at it and still press run again the second it flips back to the title screen. I'm sure I'll stick with it until I get the one credit clear.

EDIT: That didn't take long, lol. Got it. Pretty much have Op6 boss figured too. I'll definitely be coming back to challenge hard mode.

Good job. My "strategy" for the stage 6 boss was to pretty much have enough bombs and lives to tank it lol. I did a lot of save state practice to route out the final stage and took advantage of the red bomb since that allows you to do an extremely powerful point blank attack by completely covering an enemy with your ship while you're invincible.

Oh! I had no idea the ship did damage too! Yeah, my big strat for the end of Op6 was bombing the crap out of the arms and dodging like hell. The other phases are manageable once you figure out all the patterns, I was able to no-miss it on my 1CC run.

I went at Op7 with lasers, since the vulnerability window for the first boss is too short for other bombs. That fight was hella fun once I figured out to drop my speed to low, stop firing & just focus on the micro gaps in the reflecting lasers & targeted spread shots. The last boss I just hit with whatever I still had on hand once I survived the first two patterns.

Does anyone know offhand if hard is the highest difficulty? I haven't seen anything else mentioned online but PCE/TG-16 stuff isn't always well-documented.

I've been going back to this on hard, which really feels like it brings the game into its own. The increased bullet & enemy count slows it down a lot, but it does make it a lot more engaging. On the normal difficulty I rarely felt like there was a lot of difference between the three weapons most of the time, but here the piles of enemies mean the extra screen area that the wave covers matters. And you can't just cruise through the first 3-4 levels, though it's not going to break you either if you already know the game. I've been keeping my speed on low because of how much micro dodging you need to do, and it seems sufficient to handle most of the macro unless you're really out of position.

The caravan portion of Soldier Blade is excellent, especially the 5 minute mode. Of course high scores & high scores are saved to backup ram (if playing on a PCE Duo/Turbo Duo or a Super CD-Rom2 interface with a PCE/Core Grafx I/II/Super Grafx) or by using a Tennoekoe II add-on (with fresh AA batteries) with a PCE/TurboGrafx-16.

There's the rare Special Edition Caravan Soldier Blade Hu-Card variant as well -- well worth checking it out just for the novelty factor alone.

It appears to still be available on the PS3 store as well, if you missed out on Wii U:

I'd strongly recommend the Mini though:

I personally went with the CoreGrafx Mini, simply for aesthetics, though I would have been less than happy if I got a PC Engine Mini and missed Salamander.
