New Weekly Online Shmeet, with changed rules?

Post by Edge »

Hi guys,
I dunno if all of you remember the Weekly Online Shmeets Ramus held?
See my sig for a little info.

I was thinking if we might start something similiar again. I'd host it, if no one else would like to be in charge of it.

Here are some thoughts what I think should be changed from the prior Shmeets:

Play Time

One thing I that hurted the last one was probably the constant competition. Maybe we should handle it with break weeks and with an announcment when the next compo begins. So we could make it the monthly Shmeet. Maybe the first 10 days of a month a game is picked and played. Then the next shmeet starts, the next month. I think this might get the whole thing more interesting for a longer time frame. If a shmeet is every week, it might get stressful for some folks to even bother. (?)

Selection of the Games

The polls of the Weekly Shmeets were nice, but I think we might change this rule too. Since a lot of people just voted for the heck of it and didn't participate at all. One solution might be we open an extra thread for suggestions for the next month. I'll put each suggestion in a sheet and then let one be picked by random. Yeah, i know you have to trust me or whoever hosts the shmeets. But I think this shouldn't be that much of a problem. Maybe only people who joined the last shmeet can make a suggestion. If a game is voted multiple times for, it will be listed in the sheet several times. So it increases the rate that this game might be chosen. And I think we should stick with games only emulated in Mame, which means a wider range on people could easily join.

Assistance by the Mods

I also think if the Shmeets could get a seperate subforum in the Highscrore section or a sticked thread at least it would help a lot to advertise it.

Prizes
Also I wouldn't share any prices because I don't really have the money for it. I dunno if this could hurt it's popularity...

So what do you think? Are you guys interested in joining another Shmeet? Or do you think it is pointless because it would end in the same way the last one did?

Are you going to play games via Kaillera?

Uhm actually no. We were playing the game for highscores in the weekly shmeets. (Like in the highscore section. Only new scores, that were made during the week, are accepted for the online shmeets.

That was how we did it last time and I liked this system. But i think everything is open to debatte. :)

That's what the IRC is for, buddy. We have one on EFnet, #shmups.
