240p Output options RTX 3090
240p Output options RTX 3090
I thought it might be a good time to come back to this topic.
How do I output 240p from my 3090?
It is not compatible with Emudriver.
A couple of ideas I've had. Set output resolution to 960x720 and adapt HDMI to component through RT5x downscale into 240p.
I've heard mention of sending custom resolutions through Nvidia CP but have not seen it demonstrated.
I'm trying to play AM2R 1.5 and would like to send it into my OSSC with 240p scanlines to my Megaview.
Does anybody have good ideas or workarounds for this config?
Thanks

Just put a Radeon card in a secondary PCIe slot. Doesn't need to be 16x. Install Emudriver

Which one do you recommend?BazookaBen wrote:Just put a Radeon card in a secondary PCIe slot. Doesn't need to be 16x. Install Emudriver

380x and 280x are the best cards with VGA, can be had for well under $100 now
Though for 2D pixel art those are overkill
HD 5450 would be the cheapest DX11 card you could buy, which is what I'm using. And I think R5 240 the cheapest DX12/Vulkan.

Thanks alot. That works for me but I was hoping I could get my little brother going too.BazookaBen wrote:380x and 280x are the best cards with VGA, can be had for well under $100 now

He has SLI GTX 1080 and wants to send emulators to OSSC at 240p going into his CRT
I hear you can setup Super resolutions at 240p through Nvidia CP but seem to hit a wall in my research.
I would love to hear workarounds and alternatives to not buying a Radeon card if you have any experience with that

Re: 240p Output options RTX 3090
There isn't a great solution for nvidia cards.
Need a video processor that can accept "VRR" signals from emulators and output a steady frame rate, because emulators don't actually vary the blanking period. VRR is a crutch to bypass the operating system and get proper refresh rates.
PS : Shredder and the turtles, don't reply.

HD 5450 is the king, fully compatible with CRTEmudriver and CRU (you will need both). You can still get the tiny cards very cheap on Ebay. They can even get perfect res and 55Hz output on arcade games such as R-Type and R-Type 2. The learning curve for GroovyMAME/CRTEmudriver/CRU is a bit steep, even with the walkthrough you can encounter some wonky behaviors, but its the best you can get.
HD5450 and CRU were used to get these 240p120 outputs shown below with Retroarch, unfortunately I dont have any snaps of 240p60 and GroovyMAME, but I can confirm it works quite well both on a 15KHz CRT AND at 31KHZ 240p/120 modes.

Not bad for $14.99 shipped
Thanks. I would love to know more about the VRR signal support from known video processors if you can send a "Cowabunga!" down the sewer for me..orange808 wrote:

Re: 240p Output options RTX 3090
Your brother's PC probably has a spare PCIe 1x or 4x slot. Would be much more straightforward to throw an AMD card in that

Like I said he has dual GTX 1080 in SLIBazookaBen wrote:Your brother's PC probably has a spare PCIe 1x or 4x slot. Would be much more straightforward to throw an AMD card in that
Unless you can recommend a card in PCI x4?

Re: 240p Output options RTX 3090
You can put a x16 card in a x4 slot, and even a x1 slot. Though with most x1 slots you have to cut out the rear part of the slot so the card can sit fully in the slot. x4 slots usually have that back part missing already.Hoagtech wrote: Unless you can recommend a card in PCI x4?
And x1 bandwidth is fine for the 240p pixel art games we're playing

Wow that’s good info. I’ll try that with the card I ordered for my rig.BazookaBen wrote:You can put a x16 card in a x4 slot, and even a x1 slot.
