Holy jeez, thank goodness. I was literally having a talk with myself this morning about how I will really want Iky on my Switch shelf next to Radiant Silvergun once it arrives, and how I might as well just pay the price NOW instead of the even-more-insane hike it's sure to get when LRG starts shipping RS.

The PS4 "special" version is still for sale right now, probably because no one wants all that extra junk with it.

If they do normal PS4 versions, I'll grab one.

haha, that was my problem the first time, all the stuff looks like junk. those metal earth models especially are awful. ugly, a pain to put together, and little sharp edges that hurt your fingers

Jumped on these when they were made available a while back, but I'm happy for those that didn't and can get the 2nd run.

I was hoping there'd be a Radiant Silvergun / Ikaruga combo pack with both games in one cartridge/disc, but this is a somewhat acceptable alternative. Still Nicalis though, meh.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

While I suppose it’s nice they’re doing another run, it’s not quite a reprint
It has different art… which makes me think whacko collectors will just consider this a “variant” and it won’t help the market much at all.

Still, if you can grab a preorder, I suppose

Finally die hard shmup players who have never owned a Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox, PS4 or PC will have a chance to play this elusive hidden gem.

Just found out about this game by watching a top 10 hidden gems on Switch video on youtube. I just want it for the achievements tho.

NGL I really wish Nintendo weren't weirdly stubborn about that issue and had a system comparable to PSN trophies. They kinda compromised in the Wii U era offering Miiverse stamps as rewards, but humanity was not good enough for the Miiverse and now it's gone. Also the stamps were kinda corny if you're over the age of 9.

But really trophies have improved a lot of games for me, incentivizing me to go for challenges I'd otherwise pass on, or not even know about to begin with. And if they suck you can always just ignore them.

Yeah I think trophies can be very cool. Some games keep trophies in on the Switch version via an in game menu. Some noteworthy ones where they can be very meaningful are Bayonetta 1 and 2, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight etc. I wish Dark Souls had them.

Some times it goes too far tho. My personal approach is to play a game how I want for as long as I want. After that if I'm still enjoying I may look to the trophies to try and clean up the scraps while discovering some new things. I don't get the whole Platinum hunter approach where you're playing a game for trophies from the get go moving along with a guide to pick up meaningless collectibles and minimize the number of playthroughs for Plat. Then again I play games for score so maybe I don't have room to judge? Some people play the whole console for score lol.

There was a guy in here a few months ago asking for help to get all achievements in Ikaruga stage by stage without regards to playing for score. We tried to set him straight in regards to just enjoy and play for 1cc at your own pace first before banging your head against the wall. I imagine he burnt out quickly tho.

But at least Ikaruga has meaningful and challenging achievements. Too often in shmups its like clear stage 7. Then in parentheses: (any difficulty, quick save allowed)

Heads up that Nicalis have now opened orders for the second run of Ikaruga (to ship "this summer") for PS4/Switch: https://store.nicalis.com/products/ikar ... 1549792513

$49.99 (US) standard edition or a $69.99 (US) "Metal Earth" edition with a metal ship model, PVC cellphone strap, sticker, and special box.

One of the worst offenders I've seen is RetroAchievements where basically your emulator now tracks achievements for older games (NES, GB, SNES, etc). It's annoying seeing games with huge lists of absolutely random achievements like "beat X boss without wearing armor" and then "beat x boss without ever using magic" like it's just assigning a checklist of random tasks you have to look up for each part of a game. It's ticking boxes on an arbitrary chore list instead of just naturally enjoying the game (and if you want to do a no armor, or no spending any money challenge in an rpg, why not just do it the whole way through the game? that's more fun and meaningful anyways).
