NGL I really wish Nintendo weren't weirdly stubborn about that issue and had a system comparable to PSN trophies. They kinda compromised in the Wii U era offering Miiverse stamps as rewards, but humanity was not good enough for the Miiverse and now it's gone. Also the stamps were kinda corny if you're over the age of 9.Rastan78 wrote:Just found out about this game by watching a top 10 hidden gems on Switch video on youtube. Yeah I think trophies can be very cool. Some games keep trophies in on the Switch version via an in game menu. Some noteworthy ones where they can be very meaningful are Bayonetta 1 and 2, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight etc. I wish Dark Souls had them.Sengoku Strider wrote:NGL I really wish Nintendo weren't weirdly stubborn about that issue and had a system comparable to PSN trophies. But really trophies have improved a lot of games for me, incentivizing me to go for challenges I'd otherwise pass on, or not even know about to begin with. And if they suck you can always just ignore them.
One of the worst offenders I've seen is RetroAchievements where basically your emulator now tracks achievements for older games (NES, GB, SNES, etc). It's annoying seeing games with huge lists of absolutely random achievements like "beat X boss without wearing armor" and then "beat x boss without ever using magic" like it's just assigning a checklist of random tasks you have to look up for each part of a game. It's ticking boxes on an arbitrary chore list instead of just naturally enjoying the game (and if you want to do a no armor, or no spending any money challenge in an rpg, why not just do it the whole way through the game? that's more fun and meaningful anyways).cfx wrote:I despise the whole trophy concept and what it has done to gaming, changing game design in subtle ways and creating a whole group of people who only play games to get them and post incessantly on forums about their "accomplishments."
