How do u play DC Radirgy-w/ 15 kHz or 31 kHz monitor setup?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I recently got a copy of the DC import game of Radirgy from a fellow shmupper (thanks twe) and was wondering, how do you play your copy of Radirgy on the DC platform? (Meaning do you used an official DC VGA Box or an XRGB upscan convertor with Japanese RGB 21-pin cable setup?)

I like how the low-res look of Radirgy at 15 kHz with the fake scanlines (when using the XRGB-2 with Japanese RGB 21-pin cable setup).

Of course, I realize that by going with a DC VGA Box adapter setup, then the overall presentation is going to be at 31 kHz at 640 x 480 resolution (meaning the same type of presentation on a Naomi arcade cabinet setup).

How are most Naomi arcade shmups displayed in Japan (either in true low-res 15 kHz or high-res 31 kHz)?

Could a fellow shmupper please direct me to a site that has a Radirgy translations and strategies? I'd like to learn more about this Radirgy shmup game.

Thank you for your time...

Most Naomi setups in japan use 31khz (Blast City or Naomi Net City or Egret 3...style cabs). If you are capable of displaying 31khz tated, definately skip the XRGB2 and go for the DC-VGA route.

I believe you can mod you dreamcast to output at 31kHz.
http://ucon64.sourceforge.net/ucon64misc/conn.html#12
Search and there should be another thread on how to do sow on this forum.
Maybe that is not what you meant. But I read: "how can make the DC output 31 kHz so it will look sweet on my 31 kHz Monitor?"
Sorry if I misunderstood

Is that the interlaced option in Guilty Gear XX slash? Doe it make the PS2 output at 31 kHz then? And the DC does not have this option, but we can mod it to have that option on permanently and we can use it if we have a 31 kHz monitor or if we have a really expensive tv?
I'm asking this from a European perspective.
So would I notice any difference if I mod my DC to play at 31 kHz on one of those HD READY tv sets?
Can I take the my trusty ol' iron out of the closet? Can I....?

For D,

Yes, I do have an Official Sega DC VGA Box Adapter so I can, indeed, play Radirgy on such a 31 kHz VGA monitor. Sorry for not clearing up that issue.

I do know that if you can get access to an Official SCEI PS2 VGA Adapter, it works on 31 kHz monitors with "sync on green" only. So those "progressive scan" PS2 games would work with said speciality VGA cable or hacked up cable and you're in business. ^_~

Oxtsu would know more about this so-called "hacked" PS2 VGA cable adapter. Oxtsu, your thought on this subject please. ^_~
