List 1CC's you were close to getting but ultimatley lost because of something dumb or other mistake that happened which made you lose it.

Life Force JP was a game that i found to be pretty infuriting with is prior revision game Salamander especially with the fourth stage boss and the fact that shields are almost entirely usless in that version.

however Life force JP was retooled to be more forgiving in apsects amd having the power up system from Gradius implemented but still challenging and very memorization based. so i was very suprised how i was able to make it very far as i did on the default settings with my recent attempt.

This was Life Force JP PS1 on Normal Difficulty with the default number of lives and made it throught the entire thing with no lives lost and staying powered up however it was that damn final stage high speed section that ultimatley ruined my chances of getting a 1CC of this game.

Is there any way to get past that final high speed section without losing any lives or very little lives as it seems nearly impossible for me without increasing up the lives counter up which seems like a real unnecessary fix to something otherwise a not well designed section.

^ Cant get closer than that, famous screenshot.

About the same happened to me after some 3 months of working toward Ikaruga's 1CC : went all the way up to that diamond thing with 0 ship left in stock, dodged, dodged, dodged those rotating entrelacing colored pattern, managed to dodge the last hard one, felt the excitement raise inside when almost nothing's left on screen, got hit by that last white bullet when I just turned to black for no reason.

Controller dropped on the floor, never made another 1CC attempt since then (2008).

nothing beats getting seconds (or less) away from a clear only to fail at the last moment. I swear, once that happens there's no way I'm ever getting close again!

Was very close to a Maniac clear in Mushi.
I was working at it for about a month and then Aki cleaned up me. I don't know what happened.
I just gave up.

It's also hard to remember my 'almosts' be cause I usually just go back and work towards the clear until I get it anyhow.

This feeling is WHY I love shmups so much. Yes, there are some absolute HEARTBREAKING moments baked into that experience, but it only makes the final win all that much sweeter. It's all about building up mastery, executing your plans, and seeing them play out. If anything, I get slightly sad when I do finally get a tough 1CC in the bag, as it means it's time to move on. The close calls mean the fight continues and I'll be back again!

Oh yeah. I find that when I clear games a lot of times the cards line up just right. I'll make a dodge I've never made before, or finally string together a certain route cleanly, or some other break through and the clear ends up happening on that very credit. It's a great feeling.

But the road to bliss is paved in salt.

Weird, I remember getting killed by a regular bullet after the rotating lines went off screen, which does not seem possible from this gif.

So it must have been that I missed my very last polarity change, and was killed by the last rotating lines when there were no more regular bullet on screen.

That replay is from easy mode. Not sure if normal is different.

I have not really played gradius iii arcade however the ending section of gradius iii arcade does not look all that too bad the one in salamander and life force arcade is way more unforgiving and not that well designed.

This run of X360 Radiant Silvergun was pretty funny in hindsight...
