SNES SHVC question

Post by Leviathan_GX »

I have a quick SNES question. The Non-SHVC models are the non-1chip consoles, right? Or is it the opposite. Need this info for a SNES recap.

Im not the most technical guy, so I do need some help. I already bought the non-shvc capacitors for my non 1-chip console. Maybe it's more complicated than that, but maybe somebody can tell me if that's correct.

The way to use console5 is to scroll down a bit, check out the b&w motherboard pictures and find the one that matches your SNES, and then refer back to the main text for the replacement cap value list for that model.

Assuming yours is SHVC-CPU-01, compare the image with your actual motherboard and make sure they're the same:
https://console5.com/wiki/File:SNES-SHV ... ap-Map.png

Then refer to the capacitor list from the page. https://console5.com/wiki/SNES#Capacitor_Lists

I think all SNES caps are the surface mount type, but apparently some people prefer to replace them with leaded capacitors instead. I also found two helpful tips at reddit: one, do all the caps; two, test the console after doing a few capacitors so you don't end up going over the entire board looking for a mistake. https://www.reddit.com/r/consolerepair/ ... apacitors/

If you mean the motherboards, no, the SHVC-CPU-01 is just the first and early NTSC board design from launch, the later motherboards before the "1CHIP-0X" still use separate CPU and PPUs chips.

Only the SNS-CPU-1CHIP-0x boards and the SNN-CPU-01 (the 101 model) use the '1CHIP' chips, although the capacitors may vary between them.

The PAL motherboards are technically different, but the 1CHIP boards still have that denomation, SNSP-CPU-1CHIP-0X.

Check on the linked site on the message above for the corresponding capacitor that you need for your motherboard version.
