My setup:
1. PS2 with HD Retrovision component cable.
2. 1080p HDTV with HDMI inputs.
3. Looking to buy a pre-made/assembled GBS-Control.
There are two types of already assembled GBS-Control units, the ones with HDMI output and the ones with VGA output only.
For the ones with HDMI output, this is what happens to the signal:
1. Analog signal is inputted through component input.
2. Analog signal is converted to digital.
3. Some digital processing is done to the digital signal.
4. Processed digital signal is outputted through HDMI out port.
For the ones with only a VGA out, this is what happens:
1. Analog signal is inputted through component input.
2. Analog signal is converted to digital.
3. Some digital processing is done to the digital signal.
4. Digital signal is converted back to analog.
5. Analog signal is outputted through the VGA out port.
6. The outputted analog signal is converted to digital by a VGA-TO-HDMI adapter.
Is my understanding correct ? Am i right to think that more
conversions happen with GBS-Control units that only have a VGA out ?
There is less signal degradation when using GBS-Control units with a HDMI output ?
GBS-C units with HDMI out vs units with VGA only output..

Yes you are wrong. The boards with HDMI built in are exactly the same as the VGA boards except they have a VGA to HDMI adapter on the PCB. Either way the signal is being converted to analog first.
Re: GBS-C units with HDMI out vs units with VGA only output.
How does the vga to hdmi board soldered on the PCB compare with an external vga to hdmi adapters in terms of image quality ?
Which one of the following gbsc units do you recommend ?

My recommendation is to get a cheap GBS board and make your own. They are exceedingly easy to assemble, even for a soldering novice. The pre build units are a rip off IMO
With respect to the image quality of the different digitizers, I wouldn't know - I only use mine with a VGA monitor.

Re: GBS-C units with HDMI out vs units with VGA only output.
problem for me is i've ordered two gbs boards, a 5.1 with orange buttons and a 4.0 with black, both are terrible quality and while they work for a second they are unstable and one actually arcs under a pin on the chip that has the debug pin but i havent touched that chip... thinking i might hit the boards with an air rework station and see if i can get a random reflow repair out of it... for 80USD the gbs-c aliexpress all-in-one boards don't look too bad, especially if they have the usual mods like timing chip and such already integrated...
one simple question how much 5v amperage does the gbs8200 board use?

ok thanks, i was using a 2.5A supply so that shouldn't be an issue..NoAffinity wrote:
