Censorship of name / initials

Post by ManOkuChou »

I notice that, in Espgaluda, if you enter your initials as AAA, AHO, ETA, or SEX, the game will change them to CAV. The same is true of Ketsui. I don't know how many other Cave or non-Cave shmups contain this sort of initial censorship, but I am pretty sure that there are more.
Weirdly, Guwange appears to contain no name censorship at all. The game will happily let you call yourself せっくす or おまんこ or whatever you please, it seems.

Is there a list of shmups, or aracde games, together with the initials or names which they disallow?

The list is probably huge. One that comes to mind is that Capcom often replaces unallowed initials with CAP. Interesting long ago thread from this forum (where the OP also noted Espgaluda!): viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3436

My sister's initials were AAA (until she got married and took a new last name), so often ran into the issue of games not allowing her real initials.

I think it was Blue Revolver that actually has an achievement for inputting a bad word on the leaderboards

Well that had me giggling like a school girl this morning - well done  Extra points for using the honorific and all.

If you are really, really good then they can't stop you from 'dominating the scoreboards' and writing rude words vertically though ;)

In the arcade and Dreamcast port of Triggerheart Exelica, if you input SEX as your initials, it is replaced with WRS.

Also, how we can forget R-Type Final 2, If your username uses the words like "Death" they'll be censored like "*****scythe10221"

While beta testing Twin Tiger Shark - Not The Same, I suggested that inputing rude 3 letter words should change them into non-rude 3 letter words. Which lead to some really fun in-jokes, as one of the best Swedish player's often wrote KUK on top slot of the high score boards of his friends' CV-1000 games, he was no longer invited to come play. So if you write KUK on TTS-NTS, it spells out his actual initials. KUK is swedish for cock.

I still chuckle every time I sign my initials as "ASS," I don't think I'll ever grow out of it.

When you said "writing rude words vertically", I thought you meant like in Guwange. It wasn't until my third or fourth time reading your reply that I understood what you really meant.
