I really don't understand how anyone in the known universe can say that Crying looks "bleh".

Still hate how Japan seems to care nothing for the game. What kind of twisted monster would give anything about the game a 5?

Do people just really hate how creepy the game is? How did these people ever stomach R-Type and such?

It's more noisey-gritty-insecty-uncomfortable creepy, plus the player is a wierd thing as well as the enemies, the music plays into it being odd and creepy, with clashy sounds - it's all jarring/unsettling ... Many of the levels are pretty plain looking, a lack of identity/purpose that makes it feel plain, without any of the upbeat elements. Many of the bosses are just not as inspiringly or cohesively designed. It works fine, but doesn't inspire fond, warm, recollections of a great time...

r-type is a lot more full-on obvious... herioc you vs them in presentation, supported by audio; almost carnival and very upbeat in many spots... sure final/delta might get more oppressive, but they're also grander.
