Which Cave shmup would you like to see released in the US?

Post by Adigun A. Polack »

Ok. I realize right now that since so far, absolutely none of the shmups developed by Cave have even been released on an American game console system (no, NOT ONE!! :( ), I am introducing this thread for you to freely decide which of the games you want to see indeed in the US right here.

Speak your thoughts and let’s hear ‘em!!! :D

None. It would be released far too late to matter. I (and I think most people here that would buy one) would have the import already.

Mushihimesama, absolutely. Some Donpachi would be fine too. And Ibara. I don't really care, just some of 'em. :D
But I voted Mushi.

Espgaluda

Aesthetics wise, it would be a nightmare to market ("look at dem gay faries, hurrr") but I think the gameplay is easy and complelling enough to draw new fans into the genre. Kakusei mode really helped me learn the game's bullet patterns faster than those in any other cave game.
Good luck or cry.

I don't live in the US, so I don't care. I would have to import them either way.

Regarding this topic, here is what I am thinking.....

Post by Adigun A. Polack »

Here is an idea that just popped up in my head for all of you to consider. ;) Since the following Cave shmups.....
  • ESP Ra.De. (1998)
    Dangun Feveron (1998)
    Guwange (1999)
Progear (2001; developed by Cave for Capcom)
.....have NEVER been released on any home system yet (not even in Japan as well!), how about this handsome little collection called “The Cave Anthology” which should feature all four of those classic shmups listed in this post, along with flyers, history, character backgrounds, and more about them! Boy, if Cave can truly do that and sign along with any distributor(s) to actually release it worldwide (including the USA and Europe, too!), then we would be in *serious* shmup heaven!!! :D !

Something worth considering indeed, guys!!!

I'd have to say E.S.P. collection:

ESP Ra.De.
ESP Galuda
ESP Galuda II

Are you some sort of marketing guy? I mean, this is your first post so I am just curious. I live in europe so nevermind, and, honstely, while Dangun, Guwange, Esprade and Progear are fine games, those already run perfectly in MAME and need not to be bought (unless you really want to BUY them), and the newer Cave shmups can be imported, so I say: Ketsui. European and Japanese gamers would have to import it from the US

I voted for a DonPachi Collection, since DDP is probably my favorite vert & manic shmup ever. I'd like it to be relased on the PS2, or original XBox. Of course, I would still love to try out the other recently released Cave shmups. Hopefully we'll get to see them over here. But until then....I'll just keep on dreaming.

Would XS Games be up to job of Cave released PS2 shmups?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I wonder if XS Games would be willing to do such a US PS2 port of Cave shmup? (I do recall the XS Games wanted to do a USA PS2 release of Psyvariar Complete but SCEA said no to them a few years back...that is something to keep in mind.)

EspRaDe or Ketsui, altho I understand that a Ketsui port would be technically difficult to accomplish. Preferably Ketsui tho as the others mentioned are already released ( albeit Jap only ) or playable via emulation ( EspRaDe ).

I am saying that Ketsui would be the most wanted game since its not released in any other way than PCB. I am NOT saying that releasing games that are emulated is stupid. The point is that there is no way people can access Ketsui without spending a lot of cash for the PCB + cab so a port of a game that I completely unavaiable otherwise would be a wise step.

I heard something like Cave refuses to release any of their games as low budget, so they would have to be full price games, which seems to be too risky to the publishers.

I'd like to see some sort of Donpachi collection, although I own both Donpachi and Dodonpachi on PCB, so it wouldn't matter as much to me.

You're right...SPS did release both Donpachi & Dodonpachi as PSX import titles with the DDP port being pricey as it wasn't produced in big numbers like it's earlier DP counterpart was.

Yeah guys!!! And what about bundling all the above with Limited Edition Arcade Sticks, posters, figures, soundtracks and Superplay DVDs!! Wouldn't that be a great idea for Cave to consider?! And they could actually price it at 49.99 because otherwise it would be too expensive these are old games after all. :) :D!!!

If 4kids became a game company and they wanted to publish those Cave games would you still be happy? :P I don't understand how people can play Guwange and Esprade for more than a minute, they look terrible and are akin to a Mortal Kombat shmup. You are right about the other things though, as the only way to get those games to $50 would to add in stuff like what Working Designs did.

I also agree with the people who think that Ketsui should be released here as it is PCB only as of now and from what I've seen of videos it would be the perfect game to showcase what shmups are capable of these days to the mainstream audience.

4Wimps? They'd censor all the blood!

They just look too real and the blood splatter from the enemies is so annoying, as I said, it is like playing a Mortal Kombat shmup. 4kids would probably edit other stuff and some of the art because they're....... 4kids.

Gah, slapping all the DDPs into one package was a bit unfair, wasn't it? ...of course I voted for it!

I'd have preferred to vote for Polack's anthology, tho.

Wow! Such scathing sarcasm! Does the situation truly deserve it?

They're old games. They'll all fit on a DVD. Cave deserves exposure. I don't see how Cave could do anything but benefit from the release of such an anthology. I think it would work better for them than releasing each title separately would.

Cave doesn't own the rights to these games, so a compilation like that is simply not possible.

Rats. RATS!

...even if Cave had the money to reclaim them, I imagine that buying back the rights to the fruits of your own labor would be a very, very hard pill to swallow.

I don't care about any of the ones that have been released for home in Japan, since I've purchase those already (and most shmup-heads have, too). Give me a colletion that includes Esprade, Guwange, Dangun Feveron, Ketsui, and Progear. *That* would make me one happy gamer. C'mon, Taito... work with Cave to make this happen. I'm sick and tired of seeing the umpteenth rerelease of Strikers...
