I have a Sony CRT TV from around 1995 which has started ‘blanking’ intermittently, i.e.the picture is otherwise fine, but every few seconds the image disappears momentarily as though the TV was off for a second or two.
Would anyone know what this could be?
TV blanking intermittently
Re: TV blanking intermittently
This isn't with a particular device plugged in? (often a sign that emotia power supply wants replacing for example)
Slight under voltage would be a pure guess... Any circumstances that might change this behaviour?
Could maybe be pcb sag and cracking traces/even power relay itself.
Unless you can/want to have someone test further I might be tempted to just see if there was a pot near flyback or on neck that might make an adjustment that eases symptoms rather than start replacing parts... See if there was a clue as to cause?
Maybe even see if adjusting image brightness and contrast to like nothing helps or not... Plug into mains socket without an extension.... Anything that might alter power v slightly - see if there is some conforming behaviour/clue or if it is just random.
At nearly 30 years you'd assume capacitors, but whether or not that effort would actually fix the issue or whether an adjustment could see you to or past 30 is kind of anyone's guess
